Draft:Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  • Comment: We usually never have an entire section titled and dedicated to "Media Coverage and Independent Mentions". This seems to be a recent trend in AI outputs when the prompt asks to highlight how the subject is notable. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 10:02, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
  • Comment: A Wikipedia page needs to be a summary of what independent, secondary sources have said about a subject. This entire draft appears to be cited to sources written by the organisation or other affiliated organisations. This is the closest you have to a secondary source, but it's a fairly routine announcement. You need to substantially trim down the amount of this draft that is summarising the organisation's own publications and instead look for independent sources. About ARDD

ARDD (Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development), based in Amman, is a nonprofit organization that was established in 2008 to offer legal and social support to vulnerable groups. This includes refugees, women, and migrant workers.[1] Legal aid, protection, women’s empowerment, civic engagement, and socioeconomic development are the main areas ARDD contributes to.[2] The organization has been featured in programmes and directories of UN Women, UNHCR, and UN-Habitat related to gender equality, humanitarian localization, and community support.[2]

Programs and Initiatives

[edit]
[edit]

ARDD has always emphasized the importance of localizing humanitarian action and human rights initiatives, particularly in communities that need it the most.[3] This initiative has been giving multi-phase training on civil society, human rights, psychosocial support, and Jordanian law since 2013, with a focus on building the capacity of Syrian lawyers to assist their communities.[4]

Humanitarian Response

[edit]

ARDD hosted events and debates for World Refugee Day in 2020. This focused on the conditions of refugees, which also included persons with disabilities in the region during the COVID-19 pandemic.[5] ARDD received the African Arabian Excellence Award in 2022-23, recognizing the leadership, institutional efficiency, and good governance in Arab initiatives.[6]  ARDD emphasized sustainable development goals in its institutional practices. It maintains organizational resilience despite facing crises and high operational costs.[6]

Awards and Recognition

[edit]

ARDD in 2024, in collaboration with JONAF (Jordan National NGO Forum), established the Al Nahda Localization Award to support local and civil society. The initiatives that advance local civil society organizations also promote the localization of humanitarian action.[3]

ARDD coordinated its pandemic response with JONAF, the Jordanian government, and local and international civil society organizations.[7] ARDD has looked into the difficulties and advantages for local NGOs in Jordan through its research, such as cooperation with international funders, INGOs, and government representatives, and the general outcomes for refugee aid and localization of aid.[8]

Leadership and Governance

[edit]

Samar Muhareb serves as the Chief Executive Director of ARDD. The organization’s governance structure includes a Board of Trustees composed of members from civil society,  academia, and the development sector. The Board provides oversight of ARDD’s activities.[9]
