CambriLearn is a South African online school that provides distance education to students aged 5 to 18 across more than 100 countries. Founded in 2016, the platform offers multiple curricula including the British International, South African CAPS, and IEB pathways, delivered through a combination of live and recorded online lessons.. [1]

History

[edit]

CambriLearn was founded in 2016 in South Africa.[2] It was established to deliver both international and South African curricula through an online platform.[3][4]

In October 2025, CambriLearn announced its registration with the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and the launch of Grade 10 (FET phase) for the IEB pathway from January 2026, with further grades to be introduced in subsequent years.[5]

Founders and Leadership

[edit]

CambriLearn was founded by Ryan Swartzberg, Claudia Swartzberg, and Cecilia Reineke.[6]

Ryan Swartzberg serves as Chief Executive Officer. Before founding CambriLearn, he established Top Dog Education in 2008, an online learning company focused on adaptive education technology.[7]He has a background in actuarial science and has founded several education and technology ventures.[8]

Claudia Swartzberg serves as Co-Chief Executive Officer. She also holds a degree in actuarial science and previously contributed to the development of adaptive-learning systems at Top Dog Education.[9]

Academic leadership is provided by Cecilia Reineke, the school’s Principal, who has a degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and experience in curriculum design for Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, and South African CAPS programmes.[6]

Curriculum and accreditation

[edit]

CambriLearn offers several curriculum pathways, including:

  • British International programmes aligned with Cambridge Assessment International Education and Pearson Edexcel standards;[10]
  • South African CAPS/KABV curriculum, registered with the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI);[11]
  • U.S. K–12 curriculum offered through an online U.S. school partner accredited by Cognia;[12]
  • IEB pathway beginning with Grade 10 in 2026.[2]

The school’s qualifications are recognised internationally for university admission through its Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel programmes.[13]

Operations & Learning Model

[edit]

According to TechCentral and MyBroadband, CambriLearn delivers its courses via an online platform that provides live and recorded classes, teacher-marked assignments, real-time progress tracking, and individual feedback.[14][15]The school offers flexible enrolment options and self-paced learning models and reports serving students in more than 100 countries.[13][2] In South Africa, CambriLearn collaborates with local learning centres that provide supervised in-person support for home-schooled students, such as the Redruth Learning Centre in Alberton.[16]

Students can complete external examinations through authorised centres, including British Council test venues and partner institutions in South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Zambia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.[17]

Student profile & special-needs support

[edit]

CambriLearn’s programmes are designed for a wide range of learners, including expatriate families, home-schooled students, gifted learners, and those needing flexible pacing.[18][19]

The institution provides educational toolkits that outline the types of learning needs and neurodiverse profiles it can support.[20][21]
