OPONEO.PL Group is a Polish e-commerce company specializing in the online retail of automotive parts, primarily tyres and rims, across multiple European markets. Founded in 2001, it was incorporated as a joint-stock company in 2007 and is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The Group operates subsidiaries in over a dozen European countries and has diversified into bicycles and tools through acquisitions. As of 2024, the company employed approximately 600 people and generated annual revenues of €491.2 million.[1][2].

History

[edit]

Origins and early operations

[edit]

Oponeo.pl originated as an online automotive retail venture in 2001, initially operating as an internet portal for tyres and automotive parts under the domain opony.com.pl. The business was formally established following the 1999 founding of its parent entity, Citynet Media s.c., which developed automotive industry portals. In 2003, the core e-commerce operations were reorganized into a separate legal entity, Opony.com Sp. z o.o. The company adopted the Oponeo.pl name in 2006 and subsequently restructured into a capital group structure to facilitate expansion[3].

Stock exchange listing and European expansion

[edit]

Oponeo.pl S.A. completed its initial public offering on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2007, representing an early entry of an e-commerce retailer into the Polish stock market. Following its listing, the company began geographic expansion into Western European markets. International operations commenced in 2009, with the UK market entered in 2011 as a priority expansion target. By the mid-2010s, Oponeo.pl had established subsidiaries across multiple European countries with localized online retail platforms[4][5].

Diversification through acquisition

[edit]

In 2016, the Group acquired Dadelo Sp. z o.o., operator of the cycling retail platform CentrumRowerowe.pl, marking the company's first major diversification beyond automotive parts. This acquisition positioned the Group to compete across multiple mobility-related retail segments. In December 2020, a second major acquisition brought Rotopino.pl S.A. into the Group, adding tools and power tools to its product portfolio[6]. These acquisitions reflected a strategy to develop a multi-category mobility and accessories retail holding company[7][8].

Operations

[edit]

The Group operates as an online retailer focused on automotive parts, bicycles and tools, with sales conducted primarily through its proprietary e-commerce platforms. Its core business remains the sale of tyres and rims, complemented by bicycle products and tools offered through specialized subsidiaries. The company also cooperates with a network of partner service centres that allow customers to have tyres delivered directly for installation. As of 2024, the Group worked with more than 3,300 service centres across Europe, including over 1,200 in Poland and around 600 in the United Kingdom[9].

The Group employed approximately 600 people at the end of 2024 and operates a logistics centre in Zelgoszcz near Łódź, with an area of over 104,000 m²[10][11].
