Peter Rojs (born 11 March 2002), known professionally as ROJS (stylized in all caps), is a Slovenian singer-songwriter. Born in Maribor, Slovenia, he currently resides in London, England. He released his debut album Inner Lights in July 2024.
Early life
[edit]Rojs was born in Maribor, Slovenia on 11 March 2002. He began playing guitar at age five and has been playing for approximately 16 years.[1] He later moved to London, where he currently resides.
Career
[edit]Rojs released his debut single "4AM" in late 2023. The track was later released in a stripped version. In February 2024, he released "Stockholm" as his second single.[2][3] The song explores themes of being trapped in an unhealthy relationship, named after Stockholm syndrome.[2] The track was written across multiple locations, with Rojs recording parts at Abbey Road Studios in London before finalizing the lyrics on a plane to Los Angeles, where he completed the recording.[2]
His debut album Inner Lights was released on 10 July 2024.[4] The album is a collection of songs written over a five-year period. The album includes seven tracks: "Stockholm", "You Now", "Inner Lights", "Sierra", "Skin", "Blunt", and "4AM". The single "You Now" was written about the passing of his grandmother and was the first song he completed for the album.[4][5][6] The track features ambient background recordings from a park, which Rojs incorporated into the piano-based composition.[4]
His music has been described as having a "warm and invigorating alt-pop aesthetic" with "sweet and shimmering vocal performance layered across a soaring production."[1] His style has also been characterized as alternative and melancholic pop, with genre-blending attributed to his habit of writing songs while traveling.[2] Fame Magazine noted that his work is marked by "sharp lyrical skill and refined production techniques" that create "a sound that is as heartfelt as it is profound."[7]
Musical style and influences
[edit]Rojs's music has been characterized as alternative pop and indie pop. He has cited influences including The 1975, M Field, Etta Marcus, and Matt Maltese.[1] He plays guitar, piano, and vocals. In interviews, Rojs has described himself as someone who "occasionally makes sad — and less sad — songs on my laptop" and stated that he usually writes about what's happening around him and what he's feeling at the time.[4]
Personal life
[edit]Rojs has two cats and currently lives in London.[4]
