Usage

Use this rcat template on mainspace redirects only.

• This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects from plurals and Category:Unprintworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Redirects from plural forms are not usually suitable for a printed version. In other words they are unprintworthy. See below for what to do for those uncommon printworthy ones.

• Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:

#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]

This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.

• Use this rcat to tag any mainspace redirect from the plural noun of a singular target.
• For redirects that target a related word or phrase, either the |2= or the |of= parameter can be used to clarify. For example, the Domestic catsDomestic cats redirect targets Cat and is tagged as follows:

{{R from plural|of=domestic cat}}

The text will then be altered to include, ...from a plural noun to its singular form or to a broader article; the singular form is "domestic cat".

• Some plurals are printworthy, for example the Arabic and Latin forms. When you add this rcat to a redirect that you decide is printworthy, then use the unnamed parameter to subdue the unprintworthy category in the following manner:

or the 1= may be omitted:

and if used individually:

This will suppress the default Unprintworthy redirects category and instead add the redirect to Category:Printworthy redirects.
