A tool to help with the creation of WikiProject assessment categories that picks up where Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Generate categories left off.
The goal is an app hosted on Toolforge that will allow an editor to log into a simple UI with topic and project fields that match the format in {{AbQ}} and {{AbI}}, and a 'Go' button that will create the categories listed below. Templates will be added to each page, and all of the second tier talk pages will be redirected to the talk pages of the two root categories.
Initially, this will only focus on category creation, but there is a potential to flag existing pages for deletion.
FAQ
[edit]- What will the fields be used for?
- Why create and redirect all of the talk pages?
- Consistency — Some WikiProjects put banners at the top of each category's talk page, some create a few, and others not at all. It doesn't happen often but this can and does lead to fractured discussions.
- Why not redirect the talk pages to the WikiProject/task force's main talk page?
- Having banners on the the two root categories is useful and is already very common.
Generated categories
[edit]The {{Articles by Quality}} and {{Articles by Importance}} templates take care of the categorisation of the subcategories by adding them to the "root" Foobar articles by quality/importance categories, but currently doesn't add the root categories to Category:Wikipedia 1.0 assessments, which is vital for User:WP 1.0 bot to generate the assessment tables. Because of this, Category:Foobar articles by quality and Category:Foobar articles by importance will also have [[Category:Wikipedia 1.0 assessments]] applied to them.
