Lesson 0: Five pillars

One of the most important essays in Wikipedia is WP:FIVEPILLARS, which sums up what we're here for. Once you get your head around these five pillars, you will be a Wikipedian. All five will be covered in this adoption school, though at different lengths.

Q1. Please summarize and explain each of the five pillars in your own words.

P1: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it is not a dictionary, a blog or anything else.
P2: Wikipedia is impartial and all articles must be written be verifiable and cite reliable sources.
P3: Wikipedia is free to use edit and distribute. Copyright laws must be respected and nothing should be plagiarized.
P4: Wikipedia editors must be civil. There are 113,729 other editors so disputes are bound to happen. When disputes happen editors must treat each other with respect and follow dispute resolution procedures.
P5: Wikipedia has no firm rules. The idea of the rules matter more than the wordings, and there will be occasionally exceptions. Be bold when editing because if it turns out to be a mistake there is usually a previous version
