How do you propely format a request to add/delete in the vital articles? (with the support/oppose/neutral sections)? Is there a way to do this automatically, or do you just do this manually? ALittleClass (talk) 20:15, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for not noticing this earlier. The formatting has to be done by hand. To make it appear correctly, you simply put a semicolon (;) in front of each section header on a new line. If done correctly, it should look
like this
Hope this helps! QuicoleJR (talk) 18:03, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Help me!

[edit]

Please help me with... How do you properly format a request to add/delete in the vital articles? (with the support/oppose/neutral sections)? Is there a way to do this automatically, or do you just do this manually? ALittleClass (talk) 05:49, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not very familiar with that specific process, but after a quick look, it doesn't look like there is an automated way to create these requests and is probably done by hand each time. If you think it would be helpful, you could always propose a formalized structure on the general talk page about vital articles. cyberdog958Talk 07:47, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

India FAR

[edit]

I have nominated India for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" in regards to the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. JDiala (talk) 08:25, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ALittleClass, FYI the discussion is in FARC stage now and is being actively discussed. Thought I'd let you know in particular since you were very involved. JDiala (talk) 02:19, 17 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Adding to JDiala's comment. I noticed you've been leaving some great suggestions on improving the India article. It would be a huge help if you could also share your input at Wikipedia:Featured article review/India/archive4. Your contributions there would be immensely valuable in shaping the Featured Article Review process. Rackaballa (talk) 00:41, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Rackaballa I have posted my concerns with the article on the original FAR. So far I see mixed support from people outside the original talk, so it's uncertain whether it will actually continue to FARC. In the meantime, I think the best case scenario is improving the article until most people no longer have concerns with the FA rating.
Could you give any input on what you think of my proposal for reworking the culture section, or any alternate plans you would consider? I alone will not be able to accomplish everything listed on there, but with a group effort I believe the changes could be achieved in a short time. ALittleClass (talk) 16:50, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

November 2025

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm HurricaneZeta. I noticed that you recently removed content from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Battle for Dream Island (2nd nomination) without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. I think you meant to delete the possibly canvassed/SPA votes? I don't think they should be removed just yet. Z E T A3 03:19, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@HurricaneZeta Oh dang, I think votes got added inbetween the time that I started editing and when I submitted, and I assumed there was a feature that would prevent wiping (as it has in articles before). Very sorry, I'll be more mindful about it in the future. ALittleClass (talk) 03:22, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's alright. I readded everything so it's fine now. Z E T A3 03:23, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

India

[edit]

I suggest that you not add anything to the India page. I am rewriting and revising the page. Please read the talk page which refers to the FAR page. Please don't force me to keep reverting edits, which will eventually result in my seeking administrative help. So, please self-revert all the edits you made today. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 21:47, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you can create a reliably sourced music section, it would be great. You might need better sources than the one you have used (and even in that source, later editions: 2016 and 2020 have already appeared and are available on Google books). I'll add some more here shortly. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 22:19, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you are currently going a more thorough revision on the article and would prefer the article to be not heavily altered, I can oblige for a period of time. I'd like some clarification as to whether this is because my edits were poor quality, or just too much of an alteration. Also, I'd like some clarification as for how long you wish this article to be without my edits. I'll note that I asked some editors off-wiki (without giving specific information) about such a request for no edits for a given time period, and they said it was feasible for the short-term to reduce edit conflicts, but for longer than a few days it would fall under WP:OWN concerns, and that communication and collaboration is still the standard during the FARC period. Because I believe my edits are improving the encyclopedia and not disruptive (aside from not having the music citation located in the "arts" section which I was going to fix in a subsequent edit), I will not revert them, but if you see otherwise you are free to do so.
With regards to the second comment, I am confused as it in contradiction with the first. Unless, you are asking me to have the section polished before it is implemented, which is understandable. Reiterating that my edits are not just mindless "dickering and traipsing", they were crosschecked with the original source and removed some excess information. I am trying to improve this article and have it retain it's FA status as are you, and would prefer discussion over hostility. I will probably run some of my proposed changes in the talk page to gain more consensus on them. ALittleClass (talk) 23:02, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The second note was an afterthought, essentially to avoid appearing pushy or overbearing.
The article is already bursting at the seams. I had to reduce it drastically (including removing some subsections) to bring it down to the prose size deemed suitable by Nikkimaria and Z1720, both FAR regulars. It can't really accommodate new sections.
Furthermore, Indian music is a complex topic, much more so than, say, India's economy, or even society, both of which are complicated enough. Not everyone can write it even if they can paraphrase a source faithfully. On a major country topic, it requires an overall feel for due weight and cultural significance, things that average reliable sources don't clue you in to. I was thinking after a (hopefully) successful FAR, I might ask Aza24 to write that subsection (I vaguely remember they might have helped out during the Darjeeling FAR), in the same way that I asked Johnbod to write the Visual Arts section in India, or Rjensen the Education section. I have nothing against you writing the music section, but there are pitfalls that you probably do want to be aware of. Also, not all sources are scholarly, at least at the level that this article's other sections, history, geography, and biodiversity, and subsections such as Clothing and Cuisine, use.
You've cited a source, but without the ISBN or the names of the editors. So, I'm unable to judge the quality of your summary. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 00:39, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the updated citation for that source:
  • Sykes, Jim (2021). "The Music of South Asia". In Rommen, Timothy; Nettl, Bruno (eds.). Excursions in World Music (8th ed.). London and New York: Routledge. ISBN 978-1-138-35936-9.
  • The first six editions were published by Pearson, starting in 2001; the 7th and 8th have been published by Routledge. It has subsections, among others, on:
Hindustani classical music and
Carnatic music.
Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:06, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wish you all the best in writing the subsection. The updated source is a good one. I will be available to help out with any interpretations, if need be. I mean that sincerely. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:08, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If the page can have a decent Music section, I'm sure we can reduce the bloated Economy, Defense, and Politcs subsections, to meet the overall prose size requirements. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:12, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As you can see, my views keep changing. I groaned when I first saw a Music section. But now I'm excited about having it. Go figure. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:18, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Finally, I have added an Under Construction tag to that sub-section, so you can edit it peacefully. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:22, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. ALittleClass (talk) 03:08, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, How is it going? I just realized that we had a "Performing arts and media" section in the India page that I removed because I felt people were breathing down my neck about the page size being too large. I had also removed it because I thought it had become a bland listy section, without any higher level characterization. That section did have Music. If you think, it would be better to place music within the larger rubric of performing arts that would be just fine. Of course, the "too large" is relative to an arbitrary limit set by busybody talk page mavens on various WP policy pages. Other country FAs don't have the diversity or history of India in pretty much every field of human endeavor. I am happy to do battle with them when the rewriting of this 20-year-old FA is finished, or reduce the other section sizes, especially government, politics, economy, where what is there is nothing distinctive about India, just the run of the mill stuff about income, wealth, per capita income, .... Would you like me to restore that section? If so, please let me know here. I'll put your talk page on my watchlist. Here is what that section looked like: Performing arts and media Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:12, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A performing arts and media section would actually be quite good, and I don't think it needs to be very long; it's mainly a matter of how much detail to put in. I was thinking of adding some line like "India's cinema industry is the largest by films produced yearly, and second largest by yearly profits." into the "Industry" section, which would work, but it probably fits better in a media section.
Honestly, comparing that 2024 revision, in many ways I actually prefer it to the current version! Before I was confused as to why there was a visual art section and scantly anything for the other arts, but now I see that there was in the past. It's a hard balancing act between brevity and depth, because while some of the sections are longer than average, most of the sentences do contain a lot of relevant and insightful information about the topic.
PS: I hope the past few weeks haven't caused you too much stress. You've put good work into the article, but at the same time please don't take the quality assessment of the article personally. It's meant to be a user-end gauge of article quality, and not the criticism of the work of one editor or a small group of editors, especially for an article that receives so much attention from the entire pool of editors. The article content will remain regardless of what is decided. ALittleClass (talk) 20:49, 22 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I thought I had put you on my watchlist, but apparently I hadn't. I was wondering why you hadn't added anything.
In the meantime, I've restored the Dance section, or may perhaps have removed it from the Performing Arts section. I've added three pictures in it that are WP Feature Pictures, which have long been preferred on this page. I'm leaning now towards keeping Dance, just Classical Dance for that is what India is known for, and for which the majority of the scholarly sources, say something about.
I'm leaning towards having only Classical Music in the music section, for the same reasons. Would you like to update the Music section with just classical music? In the meantime, I'll add some pictures, the best I can find, to it. Also, it would probably be better if we use the new edition of the encyclopedia which I have listed above.
Alternatively, if you want me to write up the first cut, I'm happy to do that, and you can then work on it. Thanks for the PS. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 16:23, 25 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Fowler&fowler You can draft up more of the music section. In all honesty, I'm not sure where to go next with this section. The main things I was looking at around the article were various wordy sections and uncited things, and also some culture sections that could be added, but pretty much all of that's been fixed, so I honestly don't know if I'm of much use here. ALittleClass (talk) 18:38, 27 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your very well-written reply. I'd first like to revise the Dance section in India. After that, I'll look at what you've written, and if need be, add a thing or two (if I can find the sources). Thanks again for your contribution. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:06, 28 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
