Creative Software is a Sri Lankan information technology company that provides offshore software engineering and IT services to global clients. Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company’s offerings include software development, quality assurance, DevOps, cloud migration, and technical support. Creative Software serves organizations across multiple industries, including enterprise resource planning (ERP), healthcare, and financial technology, with development teams delivering solutions for clients in Europe, North America, and Asia.[1]
History
[edit]Creative Software was established in 1999 as an offshore software development firm in Sri Lanka. The company began by providing dedicated software engineering teams to Scandinavian clients and gradually expanded its services to include quality assurance, product engineering, and technical support. [2]
During its early years, Creative Software focused on serving European technology companies, particularly in Norway and Sweden, establishing itself as a long-term outsourcing partner in enterprise and cloud-based software projects. The company later expanded its operations to include clients in North America and Asia.[3]
In 2019, Creative Software opened a new development center in Colombo 03 to accommodate a growing workforce and an expanding client base. By 2022, the company employed more than 500 staff and continued to work with international clients across industries such as telecommunications, healthcare, financial technology, and enterprise resource planning. [4]
In 2024, Creative Software marked its 25th anniversary, recognized in national business media for its sustained operations, contribution to the IT export sector, and role in positioning Sri Lanka as a technology outsourcing destination. [5][6]
Operations
[edit]Creative Software provides software engineering and related services to clients in regions including Europe and Scandinavia. Media reports marking the company’s 25th anniversary note that Creative Software serves clients in South Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia, with a particular concentration of long-term engagements in the Scandinavian market.[3]
Leadership
[edit]Creative Software was co-founded in 1999 by four Sri Lankan technology professionals, each now serving as Directors of the company: Jonas Bridgwater, Sushena Ranatunga, Sajith Peiris and Johann Senaratna.[5] According to the company, the management team has extensive experience working with international clients. [7]
In a milestone feature marking the 25-year anniversary, Director Sushena Ranatunga observed that “over the past 25 years, Creative Software has been at the forefront of transforming Sri Lanka into a preferred destination for IT off-shoring.” [3] In anniversary interviews, a company director stated that the company’s development was influenced by long-term client relationships and staff contributions.[6]
Additionally, various senior executives support the founding team in operational roles. For instance, Damitha Liyanage holds the role of Software Engineering Director and Channa De Silva is also listed among the Software Engineering Directors.[8] The leadership structure includes both client-facing directors and technical managers.
Industry presence
[edit]Creative Software has maintained a significant presence in Sri Lanka’s information technology and software services sector since its establishment in 1999. The company is recognized as one of the early contributors to the country’s offshore software development industry. Some media reports have cited the company among firms contributing to the growth of Sri Lanka’s IT outsourcing sector.[9]
It is a member of the Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) and has been featured in multiple national business publications, including Daily FT, Daily Mirror, The Island, Ada Derana Biz, and LMD.[9][5][3][4][6]
Media coverage has documented Creative Software’s continued growth, including the expansion of its Colombo development centers and the company’s long-term partnerships with clients in Europe, North America, and Asia. These reports have also noted its emphasis on people-led management and sustained contributions to the country’s IT services export market. [2]
