Faxatorg is a shopping and commercial center located at Faxafen 10 in Reykjavík, Iceland sometimes it is called Faxatorg10 because it is located in Faxafen 10. Situated in Skeifan, one of the capital city's busiest commercial districts, the building serves as a hub for retail, design, and wellness services. Throughout its history, the site has housed diverse operations, ranging from automotive dealerships to educational institutions.
History
[edit]The building at Faxafen 10 has undergone several transformations since the late 1980s, reflecting the changing commercial landscape of Reykjavík.
Car dealership (1987–1990)
[edit]From 1987 to 1990, the premises were occupied by Bílasalan Bílakjör, a used car dealership. The company sold various automobiles, establishing the location as a destination for car buyers in the developing Skeifan commercial district.[1]
Manufacturing and retail (1990–2003)
[edit]Following the car dealership, the building was acquired by the clothing manufacturer Max Vinnufatagerð (Max Workwear) around 1990. Formed from the merger of Vinnufatagerð Íslands and other textile firms, the company occupied the 2,000 m2 (22,000 sq ft) facility to house both its manufacturing operations and a retail outlet.[2] They operated at the location for approximately a decade before the building was repurposed again.[3]
Educational era (2003–2012)
[edit]In 2003, the building was extensively renovated to house Menntaskólinn Hraðbraut (Hraðbraut Junior College).[4] This private secondary school was notable for its accelerated curriculum, allowing students to complete their matriculation examination in two years instead of the standard four. The school operated in the building until 2012.
Commercial era (2020–present)
[edit]Today, the building operates as Faxatorg, a modern multi-tenant commercial center which opened in 2020. The interior features high ceilings and open spaces designed to accommodate boutiques and service providers. It is considered a central location in the Skeifan district, which is often cited as one of the main shopping hubs in the Greater Reykjavík Area.

- Retail: HN Gallery, Soho Market, Urban Beat, Textíl Barinn, and Prjónabær.
- Health & Wellness: Yoga & Heilsa, Asana Joga, and Body Therapy Iceland.
