Aisha Echteld, known professionally under her artist name I Am Aisha, is a Dutch hip-hop artist. Her greatest hit Zulke dingen doe je earned her a gold record; the music video for the song was viewed over 16 million times.

Biography

Echteld komt uit een muzikale familie. Haar moeder is Jetty Weels en werd bekend als een van de zangeressen van Mai Tai. Haar vader is percussionist. Ze heeft altijd geweten dat ze zelf ook in de muziek verder wil. Vier jaar lang had ze een relatie met Willy van The Opposites. Ze was bijvoorbeeld ook als enige gastartiest te horen op hun album De fik erin (2005). In 2008 deed ze mee aan Idols, ze bereikte niet de liveshows.

When asked about the fact there are so few female artists in the hiphop world she replied that "I am one of the guys. They only speak of women where I am. I see other women who have talent but they're not moving smart enough"[1]

In 2010 the mixtape-ep I Am Aisha came out. In 2012 she collaborated with Jebroer in the song Herrie in me oor. The music video was watched more than a million times on YouTube. In 2013 she had a small hit with the song Rebel. After signing to the record label, Top Notchshe had a few other hit songs released such as Hey boy, Je bent meer and in 2015 Bitches. This was also the year in which she collaborated with Mr. Polska on his album Snoller.

In September 2015 Echteld released Zulke dingen doe je uit in collaboration with Dio. It is her greatest hit and the music video was watched over a million times on YouTube. In 2016 she collaborated with Faya & F1rstman and released the song Squat. This music video was also watched over a million times on youtube; the track was in the Top 100 in the Netherlands for 25 weeks. She performed 101Barz many times. That same year, for an episode of Ali B op volle toeren, she recorded an adaption of Ruth Jacott's Vrede.[2]

In 2018, Echteld participated in the broadcaster RTL 5's programme Expeditie Robinson. She voluntarily left the programme and was the third participant to leave. She came in 19th place. In 2023 she participated in De Alleskunner VIPS where she finished in 29th place. In 2025 Echteld participated together with Humberto Tan in the TV-programme That's my jam.
