Rob Valli is an American college baseball coach and educator. He is currently the head baseball coach at Rowan College of South Jersey–Gloucester (RCSJ–Gloucester). Considered one of the most successful junior-college coaches in the United States, Valli has led the Roadrunners to multiple NJCAA Division III National Championships and developed numerous players who advanced to four-year programs and professional baseball.
Early life and education
[edit]Valli attended McCorristin Catholic High School in Trenton, New Jersey. He attended the University of Delaware, graduating in 1994. He later earned a Master of Education with a concentration in athletic administration from The College of New Jersey.
Coaching career
[edit]High school and early assistant roles
[edit]Valli began his coaching career at St. Mark's High School in Delaware, helping lead the team to a state championship in 1994. He later coached at South Brunswick High School and served as an assistant at Gloucester County College in 1997 and The College of New Jersey in 1998.
From 1999 to 2000, he was an assistant coach at Rutgers University, contributing to two NCAA Tournament appearances including a Big East championship season.
Gloucester County College / RCSJ–Gloucester
[edit]Valli took over as head coach at Gloucester County College in 2001. His teams reached the NJCAA World Series in each of his first five seasons, and he led the Roadrunners to the 2005 NJCAA Division III National Championship. He was named National Coach of the Year that season.
After returning to RCSJ–Gloucester following his Division I tenure, Valli elevated the program to national prominence once again. The Roadrunners won three NJCAA national championships in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The Roadrunners have the best winning percentage in junior college baseball since 2021.
Temple University
[edit]In 2005, Valli was hired as the head baseball coach at Temple University. The Owls qualified for the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 2008, their first appearance in six seasons. He recorded his 300th career coaching win during his tenure and oversaw multiple program offensive records before resigning in 2011.
Coaching philosophy and development
[edit]Valli is known for his player-development model tailored to preparing junior-college athletes for NCAA Division I transfers or professional careers. Dozens of his players have earned All-American honors, and several have played professionally, including Major League Baseball alumni.
Scouting and administrative work
[edit]From 2000 to 2005, Valli served as an associate scout for the Colorado Rockies. In 2011 he was hired by the Miami Marlins, a scouting role he held through 2015. He has also serves in academic and administrative roles within the health and physical education programs at RCSJ.
Personal life
