Dr. Shadi Sabeh is a Nigerian economist, educator, and entrepreneur. He serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Iconic Open University in Sokoto State, Nigeria. He is also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Brilliant Footsteps International Academy, an institution known for integrating practical science and technology education into its curriculum.[1]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Dr. Sabeh studied at Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto, Nigeria, where he earned a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Economics. In 2012, he received the Tony and Awele Elumelu Legacy Prize for being the best graduating student in M.Sc. Economics.[2]
Career
[edit]Sabeh began his career as a lecturer in the Department of Economics at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, where he taught courses in economics and entrepreneurship. In 2012, he founded the Brilliant Footsteps Academy (now Brilliant Footsteps International Schools) with 68 pupils and 23 staff members. By 2015, the school had expanded to over 500 students and 100 employees.[2][3]
In 2024, the academy gained national attention when fifteen of its graduating students designed and built an electric car as their final-year project, the first of its kind in Sokoto State.[1]
As the Vice-Chancellor of Iconic Open University, Dr. Sabeh continues to promote open and distance learning, emphasizing innovation, flexibility, and entrepreneurship as key drivers of higher education.[4]
In 2015, Dr. Sabeh represented Nigeria at the Emerging Global Entrepreneurs Event held at the White House, Washington D.C., hosted by President Barack Obama.[5]
He attended the event through nomination and sponsorship by the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which recognized his contributions to youth entrepreneurship and education.[2]
He also participated in entrepreneurship and leadership sessions organized by the Tony Elumelu Foundation in Nairobi, Kenya, where he interacted with emerging entrepreneurs from across Africa.[2]
Personal Life
[edit]Dr. Sabeh is married and has children. He enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures, and taking on fresh challenges.[3]
