Achievements
[edit]Early life and education
[edit]Shaswat Kumar was born and raised in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. In 2007, his father, a government employee, was transferred to Hyderabad, which was then part of Andhra Pradesh and later became Telangana. The family subsequently moved to Hyderabad, where Kumar continued his studies. During his college years, he was an active member of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), which greatly helped him in developing discipline and determination that supported his progress in martial arts.[1]
He began learning karate during his school years and continued to develop his skills under various instructors in India and abroad. His early education was completed in India, where he also pursued advanced martial arts training that later shaped his approach toward developing a distinct karate system.
He later founded an independent karate style called Senkoukai Karate, which has been reported in international martial arts media.[11][12]
Career
[edit]After completing his education, Shaswat Kumar continued his journey in martial arts, focusing on the study and practice of full-contact karate. Over the years, he trained with several senior masters and participated in various martial arts seminars and events. His experience and long-term involvement in karate led him to develop the independent system of Senkoukai Karate, which emphasizes both traditional principles and modern training approaches.
In 2024, Senkoukai Karate received official recognition as an independent karate system from the International Bujutsu Karate Association, headquartered in Japan, and from Masaki Watanabe, founder of the Watanabe Shotokan Karate Federation.[11][13]
On 9 February 2025, Shaswat Kumar completed a 100-man full-contact kumite organized by the World Senkoukai Karate Organization, during which he fought a total of 108 consecutive matches.[14]
Kumar later became involved in the organizational and technical development of Senkoukai Karate at the international level. He was appointed to the Senkoukai Karate World Executive Committee, which oversees global coordination and standardization of the style.[13]
