Republic of China and America on Okinawa during World War II
[edit]In 1943, during World War II, the US President asked its ally, the The Republic of China, if it would lay claim to the Ryukyus after the war.“The President then referred to the question of the Ryukyu Islands and enquired more than once whether China would want the Ryukyus. The Generalissimo replied that China would be agreeable to joint occupation of the Ryukyus by China and the United State and, eventually, joint administration by the two countries under the trusteeship of an international organization.”

Translation needs work
[edit]Much of this page seems to have been badly translated from Japanese, and needs work. I could fix a few grammatical errors, but it probably needs a new translation. Hypershock (talk) 16:21, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Neutrality issues
[edit]Many sections of this article are sourced only to opinion pieces and repeat the authors' opinions uncritically in Wikivoice. For example, most of the Chinese government views and influence section translated from Japanese is content closely paraphrased from the opinions and analyses of two authors. The seemingly random comparison of Okinawans with the Welsh is due to undue weight given to one author's analogy, introduced like so: "Regarding the promotion of culture in Okinawa, there is a view ..." There are many fringe views and analogies out there, but only those by credible authors should be given particular weight and attention. Yue🌙 22:33, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
WP:synth
[edit]"The Ryukyuan people are indigenous people who live on the Ryukyu Islands and are ethnically, culturally, and linguistically distinct from Japanese people." is not actually reflected in the sources cited. The section should read "the ryukyuan[...]are distinct from Yamato people".

- Using a synonym is not synth, although the sentence could use a rework to be less listy and instead explain the asserted distinctions. CMD (talk) 23:21, 19 November 2025 (UTC)
- I think Tdmurlock may have a very nuanced objection. There is a difference between saying Ryukyuans are not "Japanese" as in the ethnic Yamato people of what was historically called the "inner lands" (内地, naichi) and Ryukyuans are not "Japanese" as in the modern Japanese government's conceptualisation of the Japanese people and nation, which now encompasses all the people formerly relegated to the "outer lands" (外地, gaichi), such as the Ryukyuans. A supporter of Ryukyuan independence may contend Ryukyuans are distinct from the latter grouping, but the scholarship cited is talking about the former. Yue🌙 02:54, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
- It may be worth looking at and lining up this article's introduction with how the subject is treated at Ryukyuans, and if need be make revisions there (although at a glance it seems to be a more substantial article), to avoid ending up with WP:CFORK descriptions of Ryukyuan people. signed, Rosguill talk 02:58, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
