Asda and Walmart

[edit]

Hi editors, I noticed a slight error with the nature of Walmart's relationship with Asda. Walmart sold Asda to the Issa brothers in 2020, with the sale being finalized in February 2021 per Reuters. I noticed a couple spots in the article where it makes it seem like Asda is still owned by Walmart:

  • In the Introduction:
    • "Walmart's investments outside the U.S. have seen mixed results. Its operations and subsidiaries in Canada, the United Kingdom (ASDA)"
      • Can this parenthetical be removed?
  • In the Setbacks section:
    • "On October 2, 2020, it was announced that Walmart will sell a majority stake of Asda to a consortium of Zuber and Mohsin Issa (the owners of EG Group) and private equity firm TDR Capital for £6.8bn, pending approval from the Competition and Markets Authority."
      • The sale was approved in February 2021, per the Reuters article linked above, can this be updated to reflect that?
  • In the Global eCommerce section:
    • "Based in San Bruno, California, Walmart's Global eCommerce division provides online retailing for Walmart, Sam's Club, Asda, and all other international brands."
      • Can Asda be removed from this list?

Please let me know what you think. Cheers BG at Walmart (talk) 15:42, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mention fintech products/services in 2020s: Development?

[edit]

Hello! As noted on my profile, my name is Clay and I work for Stagwell which has OnePay as a client so I wanted to put this into talk instead of just making the edit. (OnePay is the fintech that is behind things like the Walmart credit card and the Walmart Cash debit card: https://www.walmart.com/cp/9435689 & https://www.walmart.com/cp/one-debit-card/3747098. )

Walmart has been expanding their financial services offerings to consumers. Would it be appropriate to add a few bullets to the 2020s: Development section using the independent, substantial and reliably-sourced citations below? Thanks!

  • In 2021, Walmart announced acquisition of fintech companies One and Even. [1] [2]
  • In June 2025, Walmart began offering a credit card through a partnership with financial services company Synchrony Financial. [4]
