Usage

This template displays a date in both Old Style (O.S.) and New Style (N.S.), including a discreet link to Old Style and New Style dates, when the year is the same in both styles. Old Style is shown first and New Style in brackets, allowing historical records to be quoted verbatim. It differs from template:OldStyleDate in that Old Style is displayed first; the other template shows New Style first.

Fourth parameter (NS year) is ignored.

Parameters

• 1: OS day and month — Required; Old Style day and month
• 2: Year — Required; year for both dates
• 3: NS day and month — Required; New Style day and month
• 4: NS year — Optional; ignored
• mdy — Optional; set to yes if input is month/day; adds a comma after the bracketed N.S. date

Shortcut: OS2NS

The formal name is {{Old Style to New Style}}, but template:OS2NS may be used:

  • Result: 20 January [2 February N.S.] 1905

• {{OS2NS|January 20|1905|February 2|mdy=yes}}
  • Result: January 20 [February 2 N.S.], 1905

• Note: Only set mdy=yes if input is month/day to add the comma.

Tip for editors

• Only set mdy=yes if input is month/day.
• Do not use mdy=yes with day/month input.
• The fourth parameter (NS year) is ignored for same-year dates.
