Map A. The mandate was for the Jewish people under international law, a sacred trust with the Jewish people Map B. The 67 lines are not borders. Here's the relevant text from the armistice agreement. Article 2 of the agreement "It is also recognized that no provision of this Agreement shall in any way prejudice the rights, claims and positions of either Party hereto in the ultimate peaceful settlement of the Palestine question, the provisions of this Agreement being dictated exclusively by military considerations". http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/arm03.asp

Hello, I withdraw the link to that historical map, as the French description do not reflect the English historical translation. Indeed the French annotation reads "Réparation de la propriété agraire" which can be translated as "Distribution of the agrarian property", which relate to the cultivated land as of 1945. Issue with the first map

[edit]

Hello, I found at least one anachronism in the first map regarding British mandate borders, the 1949 Armistice demilitarized zone is presented on the map of the British mandate.

Please fix the line, or we will need to add a footnote explaining the error. --Vanlister (talk) 00:11, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Palestine as claimed by the World Zionist Organization in 1919 at the Paris Peace Conference

@Onceinawhile: Hi. Say, Shouldn’t the map also have a dotted blue line in the west from Aqaba to el-Arish? DaWalda (talk) 10:18, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The map follows: Tessler, Mark (1994), A History of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, page 163
The official ask by the ZO was:[1] The boundaries of Palestine shall follow the general lines set out below: Starting on the North al a point on the Mediterranean Sea in the vicinity South of Sidon and following the watersheds of the foothills of the Lebanon as far as JISR EL KARAON, thence to EL BIRE following the dividing line between the two basins of tile WAD: EL Kook and the Wadi ET TEIM thence in a southerly direction following the dividing line between the Eastern and Western slopes of the HERMON, to the vicinity West of BEIT JENN, thence Eastward following the northern watersheds of the NAHR MUGHANIYE close to and west of the Hedjaz Railway. In the East a line close to and West of the Hedjaz Railway terminating in the Gulf of Akaba. In the South a frontier to be agreed upon with the Egyptian Government. In the West the Mediterranean Sea.

Ah, you're right, they didn't officially demand that. I got the idea from Biger's map, who interpreted this formulation as a veiled claim for the area shown on the map on the right (p. 78: Concerning the southern border, the Zionist Organization concealed its demand to broaden the delimited area to El-Arish, because of British sensitivity about Egypt. Cf. also Galnoor, p. 76: ... the initial proposal set a southern border along the El Arish-Aqaba line to include part of the Sinai Peninsula, but in the official 1919 memorandum, due to British pressure, the matter was left open for negotiation with the Egyptian government.). But your solution is probably better. Thanks :) DaWalda (talk) 20:34, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fascinating, great find DaWalda. You might want to add something on this to Borders of Israel#Border with Egypt and Mandate_for_Palestine#Palestine-Egypt_border. Onceinawhile (talk) 20:43, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thx :) DaWalda (talk) 13:40, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The map of 1948-1967, is presented as "actual" which is inconsistent in 2022, while the map of the geopolitical situation of "1967-1994" is still relevant, as there territory is still viewed as Israeli Occupied Territory, while the Oslo Accords are about self-governance rather than boundaries.--Vanlister (talk) 00:35, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
