Statements

[edit]

Is it possible to use Listeria bot to return statements? It would be very useful if it was possible :-) As an example, I am currently trying to reformulate a sparql question for use with Listeria that list people that has been member of a sports club (currently there are a lot of these type of lists on Wikipedia, but they easily become outdated):

Url for the question: https://query.wikidata.org/#SELECT%20%3Fhuman%20%3FhumanLabel%20%3FstartTime%20%3FendTime%20%3FmembershipStatement%20WHERE%20%7B%0A%20%20%3Fhuman%20wdt%3AP31%20wd%3AQ5%3B%0A%20%20%20%20p%3AP54%20%3FmembershipStatement.%0A%20%20%3FmembershipStatement%20ps%3AP54%20wd%3AQ3149147%3B%0A%20OPTIONAL%20%7B%0A%20%20%20%20%3FmembershipStatement%20pq%3AP580%20%3FstartTime.%20%20%20%23%20retrieve%20start%20time%20if%20available%0A%20%20%7D%0A%20%20OPTIONAL%20%7B%0A%20%20%20%20%3FmembershipStatement%20pq%3AP582%20%3FendTime.%20%20%20%20%20%23%20retrieve%20end%20time%20if%20available%0A%20%20%7D%20%20SERVICE%20wikibase%3Alabel%20%7B%20bd%3AserviceParam%20wikibase%3Alanguage%20%22en%22.%20%7D%0A%7D%20order%20by%20%3FstartTime

Syntax for the question.

SELECT ?human ?humanLabel ?startTime ?endTime ?membershipStatement WHERE {
  ?human wdt:P31 wd:Q5;
    p:P54 ?membershipStatement.
  ?membershipStatement ps:P54 wd:Q3149147;
 OPTIONAL {
    ?membershipStatement pq:P580 ?startTime. # retrieve start time if available
  }
  OPTIONAL {
    ?membershipStatement pq:P582 ?endTime. # retrieve end time if available
  }  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "en". }
} order by ?startTime

Number of items in list - have I made a mistake?

[edit]

Hello,

In https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%BCrkiye%27deki_k%C3%B6m%C3%BCr_yak%C4%B1tl%C4%B1_elektrik_santralleri_listesi we can see the number of rows at the bottom of the table.

But I cannot get it to work in https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%BCrkiye%27deki_enerji_santralleri_listesi

Can anyone see if I have made a mistake? Chidgk1 (talk) 12:28, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is no consensus to use Template:Wikidata list in articles

[edit]

Is this still true, the problem seem to have been resolved (Wikipedia:Bots/Noticeboard/Archive 13#Update (botop) ) and the warning doesn't appear on the pages anymore (Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by identifier/Olympedia)

I suppose we should delete the warning on the page, is it okey ? Haymillefolium (talk) 00:07, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion you cite indicates that the bot is blocked from editing mainspace. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:11, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
" I have unblocked the bot, and if there are any small-scale tests you need to run feel free to do so" Haymillefolium (talk) 11:12, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This was in response to "I just blocked namespace 0 editing on enwiki for the bot" (by the bot operator in that same section you quote), which resolved concerns and lead to the unblock. The bot can not and should not be used on articles, i.e. in the mainspace ("namespace 0"), as there was significant opposition against articles which basically were no longer editable on enwiki (plus other concerns). If you want it to edit the mainspace, you can ask the bot operator whether they want this as well, after which they can ask for approval (probably would need an RfC). I doubt consensus for this would develop, but I may be wrong of course. Fram (talk) 11:38, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
aaaah okey sorry I didn't understood, thanks ! Are you aware of any space where wikidata information is represented with tables ?
Is it allowed to link to a sparl query in a wikipedia article ? For example to say somethin like "you can find a list a sci-fi horror movie in wikidata using this query" Haymillefolium (talk) 23:14, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is used in at least one other language Wikipedia. For example I use it in tr:TĂŒrkiye'deki kömĂŒr yakıtlı elektrik santralleri listesi. If it was allowed for the corresponding enwiki article I might be a little more motivated to keep the info up to date on Wikidata - it is now woefully out of date. On the English article I have written “More info on generation and subsidies for coal-fired power stations is extracted from Wikidata and listed in the Turkish version of this article.” Chidgk1 (talk) 06:02, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I removed that, it has no place in an enwiki article. Fram (talk) 11:07, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, Wikidata is not a reliable source and should not be used in this way in articles. Fram (talk) 11:08, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
wikidata is not the source, wikidata is a tools that can be use to format sourced information. You can apply filter and only display source statement. So i don't think the issue is the reliability of the sources.
When you say "you can find list of this in here" you're not giving any information, only pointing to external information, why this should'nt be done in wikipedia ? Wikidata is collectivelly builded, it's a side project of the foundation, it doesn't support any point of view so this shouldn't go against proportionality but maybe there is others rules idk about. Haymillefolium (talk) 11:31, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@HaymillefoliumYou probably understand this better than me - what filter is that please? Chidgk1 (talk) 18:06, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
When you build the request you can ask for only sources statements, the rank of the statement can also be used. But I don't remember how now Haymillefolium (talk) 20:58, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sister projects are used in external links / see also sections, but not as reliable sources. Wikidata has other rules about what is considered acceptable sourcing (much is "sourced" to Wikipedia in the first place). Fram (talk) 18:13, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Fram It seems that https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Sources does not mention medical data, but apart from that how is it different from English Wikipedia sourcing standards please? Chidgk1 (talk) 18:35, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so the theory is better than it used to be at least. Whether that makes any change in practice is doubtful. Last time I checked the general quality was a lot lower. Fram (talk) 18:59, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In wikidata you can use primary source or even unreliable source, because the point is to save the information "this source stated that". You can deprecate the rank of a statement of the source is of poor quality. Haymillefolium (talk) 20:55, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I may be wrong but if I remember right there is a way to copy a citation used in wikidata into Wikipedia - sorry don’t have time to check that now Chidgk1 (talk) 18:04, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes the “references=all” parameter. I don’t know about the politics but I wonder whether it would be technically difficult to prevent a piece of data being copied from Wikidata to Wikipedia if it had no reference. Chidgk1 (talk) 19:54, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This doesn't seem to have anything to do with the issues with the template:wikidata_list though, the main issue was not "referenced or not" but that a bot would be overruling human edits. The template can be used on project pages, user subpages, ... but not in articles directly. Fram (talk) 19:57, 4 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
this is very easy to do. But has state by @Fram it's not the main issue here. BUt it could be a argument if someone want to reopen the discussion around using the bot to generate list on wikipédia Haymillefolium (talk) 10:21, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
