Hi, I'm Victor. I have always enjoyed reading Wikipedia articles. When I noticed Wikipedia was run by volunteers, I decided to try editing. It's not that I'd never seen the "Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit" mantra—I just never gave it any thought. It's been said that most logged-in editors started editing as unregistered Wikipedians[1]— I'm an exception to that. In February 2022, I tried editing for the first time as an anon only to get the message that my IP address was blocked (lol). Few days after that, I created this account. I enjoy editing and I'm by no means an expert on any subject. Want to talk to me? Go to my talk page or email me.

My alias Python Drink

[edit]

I've always loved computers. In early 2019, I developed an interest in computer programming.

It wasn't until 2021 though that I decided to create a funny kind-of-stupid alias for myself that would allude to this. Python Drink is a reference to both the Python programming language and the snake. At the time I chose this nickname, I had the mistaken belief that pythons are venomous. So, Python Drink, in a literal sense, means that I'm a shot of venom from a python, or in a metaphorical sense, a dangerous hacker (though I'm not one yet though).

Formerly, I used the username Victor obini which is actually my real name. On June 9, 2022, my username change request from Victor obini to Python Drink was approved.

What I do on Wikipedia

[edit]

I primarily make copy edits. Usually I search for articles centered around my interests (see infobox) daily to make copy edits. Full list below:

  • Copy edits
    • Correcting spelling, grammar, tense, etc
    • Fixing tone to comply with WP:NPOV
    • Rephrasing sentences to make them easier to read
    • Getting rid of redundancy
    • Expressing the the same idea in as few words as possible
  • Adding references/citations if I can when I see unsourced content
  • Adding templates such as {{Citation needed}}, {{Clarify}}, etc, when appropriate
  • Wikilinking

Tip of the day

[edit]
When to use external links

While Wikipedia is not a web directory, external links are allowed where appropriate. They generally are listed under a == level 2 heading == called "External links", even if there is only one link. The best way to create external links is to type "[URL link title]". For example, [http://www.wikibooks.org Wikibooks] will become Wikibooks. However, such short link titles generally are frowned upon.

Try to describe your external links, so that the reader has a pretty good idea where it will take them before clicking on it. In the body of articles, do not use external links where Wikipedia links exist. For example, in an article about Wikimedia, a link to Wikibooks (the Wikipedia article about the project) would be more appropriate than a direct link to Wikibooks.org.
