Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
While the above is a standard notice, I do want to draw attention to two issues with your edits thus far: 1) you have made many edits to Indian social group topics, which you are not yet allowed to do per the ARBCOM decision described in the above notice 2) you have described several of your edits as addressing Grammer
, and in doing so introduced grammatical errors (as well as demonstrating that you don't know how to spell "grammar"). Examples include Special:Diff/1310763836, Special:Diff/1310772275, and Special:Diff/1310768255. Please do not attempt to do grammatical fixes if you are not fully versed in English grammar, as appears to be the case. In a similar vein, in Special:Diff/1310770284 you added a giant image that makes the page impossible to read. Please take more care in editing and ensure that you are actually improving the articles you edit. signed, Rosguill talk 15:02, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- Okay from now I will avoid editing pages related to social groups and also from now Grammar should be appropriate. Coelentrata (talk) 15:09, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- The spelling of "grammar" is not the issue. The issue is that you keep adding grammatical errors when you think you are fixing grammar. In this edit and this edit and this edit and this edit and this edit and this edit and this edit you have introduced grammatical errors to text that was perfectly fine before you changed it. It does not appear that you are sufficiently fluent in English grammar to be making grammatical changes. It is disrespectful of other editors for you to be making changes like this, which other editors must spend their time to fix. I just spent 10 minutes of my time reviewing and fixing your seven incorrect changes. Please stop making grammatical changes if you cannot do them correctly. - @CodeTalker It's my fault, I am working on my grammar and from now grammar would be correctly added to articles, Thanks. Coelentrata (talk) 06:07, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
