Tip of the month:

  • When creating biographies, don't forget to use Template:DEFAULTSORT.
Accessible from "Wiki markup" at the foot of the page being edited,
it allows categories to be listed under the subject's family name rather than their first or given name.

Moving the needle: (statistics available via Humaniki tool)

  • 24 Mar 2025: 20.070% of biographies on EN-WP are about women (2,057,083, 412,857 women)
  • 27 Jan 2025: 20.031% (2,047,793 bios, 410,200 women)

WikiCup 2025 May newsletter

The second round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 28 April at 23:59 UTC. To reiterate what we said in the previous newsletter, we are no longer disqualifying contestants based on how many points (now known as round points) they received. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. These tournament points are carried over between rounds, and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers at the end of each round. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned.

Round 2 was quite competitive. Four contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and eight scored more than 500 points (including one who has withdrawn). The following competitors scored at least 800 points:

In addition, we would like to recognize Generalissima (submissions) for her efforts; she scored 801 round points but withdrew before the end of the round.

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 13 featured articles, 20 featured lists, 4 featured-topic articles, 138 good articles, 7 good-topic articles, and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 19 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 300 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Nomination of 30 Rock season 4 for FL removal

I have nominated 30 Rock season 4 for featured list removal. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured list criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks; editors may declare to "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Suspension of autopatrolled permission due to inactivity

Hello Courcelles. Following a request for comment in May 2025, the community has decided to implement an activity requirement for the autopatrolled permission. Because your account has not edited in the last three years, the autopatrolled permission has been removed from your account. This action is purely procedural and does not affect your ability to create articles; if you return to actively creating articles, you may request that the permission be restored through the normal process. When returning, please consider taking some time to re-familiarize yourself with common practices and how they may have changed over the past few years if you wish to request the permission back. Thank you for all of your contributions to Wikipedia, and we hope to see you again soon. – – DreamRimmer Alt (talk) 11:38, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Happy Adminship Anniversary!

Happy Adminship Anniversary!

Unsanction request

A couple of years ago, you imposed this restriction on my editing, (dated 21st March). It is still extant, and I believe technically redundant given the time and further sanctions that were imposed, and lifted, six months ago.

There is a certain reluctance of active admins to remove your restriction, understandable given WP:CTOP#Changing or revoking a contentious topic restriction, so I am posting here just in case you pop in, and are feeling generous!!. Thanks. Roxy the dog 14:54, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

For whatever it may be worth, I would like to add my support for Roxy's request, and draw attention to the community consensus here. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:51, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

Page unprotection request

Over 14 years ago, you imposed an infinite semi-protection on this page. This was due to excessive vandalism from a small group of IP users — who were also responsible for a previous temporary protection which had expired a day prior. Due to the aforementioned timeframe, and the fact that the vandals have long been inactive, I think it is unnecessary and redundant to keep the article's infinite protection — especially for a show which has not been on air for over a decade. A tag has been placed on Category:American tennis players of Asian descent indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 21:37, 27 September 2025 (UTC)

Hi Courcelles, as the last one who placed the Algeria article under semi-protection in 2023, I'm a bit of confused on how the current protection status is warranted here. The protection request said to restore "the indefinite semi-protection" following a temporary one-month extended confirmed protection, but the protection log shows there wasn't an indefinite semi-protection before that; it was semi-protected for only three months before being extended confirmed protected for the remaining duration, so the reason to restore the indefinite semi-protection seemed illogical. Since you had been away, I tried to get the protection removed five months ago, but Favonian opposed. BriDash9000 (talk) 09:25, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Special:PermaLink/1296494028#Algeria is easier to access than the monstrous RfPP archive. I stand by what I wrote in June. Favonian (talk) 15:04, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Favonian After seeing what you stated again, and given the fact that the article was extended confirmed protected again for three months from November 2024 to February 2025 due to disruptive editing even with semi-protection, I think your opposing reason would make sense after all. BriDash9000 (talk) 08:55, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
Yeah, I’m not inclined to unprotect this article. It has a long history of attracting crap. Courcelles (talk) 16:29, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

I see you

Nice to see your name pop up. Happy holidays!-- Ponyobons mots 17:31, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
