New page reviewer granted

[edit]

{{safesubst:require subst|template=New Page Reviewer granted|1=

Hi Cukie Gherkin. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Steps such as checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline are mandatory and will take a few minutes per article.
  • Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any required steps.
  • Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. ~~

Do you have time to help research?

[edit]

Greetings. Last month you posted on the VG Project talk page offering your time to help research topics. If you still have time available, I took an interest in the retro game NHL Hockey. I've already started expanding the various sections, but I believe the development and legacy sections may prove to be challenging for me. If you can help find development or marketing information as well as general information about the NHL game series that it started, I'd greatly appreciate it. If not, no worries and please disregard the request. Thanks. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:57, 29 March 2025 (UTC))[reply]

@Guyinblack25: Sure, I can take a look and see what I can find Cukie Gherkin (talk) 18:42, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are amazing. Thank you very much. This is much more than I anticipated. I checked the Hockey WikiProject and Hockey News is listed there. Thanks again! (Guyinblack25 talk 22:15, 29 March 2025 (UTC))[reply]
No problem! You should also check this for more sources, I forgot to check this. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 22:17, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again. The article has come a long way with the sources you found. I might even put it up for GA if I have the time for it. (Guyinblack25 talk 02:08, 1 April 2025 (UTC))[reply]
That's awesome, it looks solid. Glad I was able to help get it to that point. Do you mind if I be co-nom? I can do a copyedit before the GAN if you like, just to have it be given a good once over. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 08:33, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm always appreciative of another pair eyes reviewing for copy edits. And of course, you can be a co-nominator. I'm quite out of practice on GAN, so I was going to nominate Atomic Betty (video game) first to get reacclimatized to the process. I'll let you know when I nominate it. Thanks again. Guyinblack25 talk 01:08, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have an idea when you'll nominate? I got an infection in my thumb, so I'd like to let it get less swollen before I do more intensive Wikipedia editing. Would you be okay if I did my copyedit a few days from now? Cukie Gherkin (talk) 01:12, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No rush. I'm almost ready to nominate Atomic Betty. Just need to do another sweep for sources and then a final copy edit. After that, I had planned to nominate NHL Hockey, so whenever you have a chance to copy edit. (Guyinblack25 talk 03:22, 2 April 2025 (UTC))[reply]
Hey there. I saw that you started copy editing NHL Hockey. Let me know when you're done and I'll nominate it for GAN with you as a co-nominator. Thanks again for your help. (Guyinblack25 talk 18:46, 15 April 2025 (UTC))[reply]
@Guyinblack25: Sure, give me a day or two and I can start working on that. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 12:14, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
👍Sure thing. No rush. (Guyinblack25 talk 12:41, 16 April 2025 (UTC))[reply]

Hey there. Just letting you know that I'm going to nominate NHL Hockey for GAN tomorrow. I think it is in good shape, but if you notice anything by all means feel free. (Guyinblack25 talk 02:06, 2 May 2025 (UTC))[reply]

I think it is in good shape as well. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 02:56, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Jun-ho Draft

[edit]

Hello, I'd like to know if I can create Hwang Jun-ho's draft so I can count on your help developing the article. Let me know when you know anything. Thank you very much :) Marco camino 10 (talk) 10:07, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why the rush? VIPs and the Recruiter are still unfinished Cukie Gherkin (talk) 12:33, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, could you help my finding sources for the VIPs article? I am having problems finding sources for the one. I have also started de Hwang Jun-ho draft, for you to know. Marco camino 10 (talk) 17:33, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can give a looksie sometime, though if I may be honest, I worry that VIPs aren't notable. I'll still do my best to help out, though Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:23, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Re the picture to use on the infobox of Seong Gi-hun

[edit]

Hey! :)

I saw your revert of my image-related edits which included an edit description reading:

going to have to disagree with this; the new lead image does not have a proper fair use rationale

As the uploader of that new lead image, I wanted to ask you if you could clarify to me the problems with the rationale? I'd love to discuss and improve the rationale in any way possible!

Looking forward to your response,
grafiXal (talk) 00:22, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, the issue is that the rationale is essentially that it's meant to represent the character, but when there is already an image that does that (the original lead image), there needs to be something about that image in particular. We should aim to use as few images as possible Cukie Gherkin (talk) 00:24, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. My idea was that the previous image of the infobox, considering it is from the S1 and he changed he looks then, would serve better for its secondary purpose, which is to compare the notable character shift, so I wanted to upload an image of him outside the contest's clothes to show a general perspective of him, but when I think about it more, I also consider another idea where we can note the character shift visually without the need of a seperate infobox image, perhaps by just moving the S2 image to the infobox and merge its caption in. I think that may be a better option, and I'm down to follow that instead of having this seperate image thing.
I just wanted to ask because I thought there was another problem in the contents of the rationale. :) grafiXal (talk) 00:32, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In regards to the above, how would you feel about merging these two images that you uploaded of Gi-hun into one file, so that they can be added to the infobox and provide the character shift from there? (With the sizes matching) grafiXal (talk) 01:44, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would look a bit odd, and might be distracting. I think it's fine as is, with the original depiction of the character and an image in the Reception section to demonstrate his new look. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 01:49, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I mean:
  • if there are two notably different looks, I think it's fine to categorize that, then just give people one half of it. There aren't many pages with this exact same case (that is if ther even are), but for example, here it made sense (I know there are two different actors there, but I still think something of the similar can be applied here).
  • merging these images to one would keep one single non-free file for the article, which could help with the amounts of non-free images usable or used.
GrafiXal (talk) 12:56, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That wouldn't work for fair use purposes, though; I believe the policy specifies that you cannot combine two fair use images as one fair use image. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 14:25, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Well, what if the images were cropped to an identical size, so that we can put them in the infobox and it wwoudn't look messy? GrafiXal (talk) 19:42, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know that this would be useful, as the uninformed reader would not fully understand why such an unusual situation is occurring with the two images. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 19:05, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ali Abdul's draft

[edit]

Hi Cukie, I'm writing to tell you that I won't be able to read the first Korean sources because the editor is quite outdated on the computer, which can't be updated due to time and such. I wonder if you could take charge of adding the information from those sources. Thank you. Marco camino 10 (talk) 17:21, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

3RR Warning

[edit]

Stop icon Your recent editing history at Kris_(Deltarune) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
Be mindful of 3 Revert Rule. IzzySwag (talk) 04:35, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to keep this here, including my message about how a user breaking 3RR while warning about breaking 3RR is incredibly wild, and behavior from someone who will not last long on Wikipedia if they don't change their ways. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 04:38, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's just a warning. IzzySwag (talk) 04:40, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Are you aware of the fact that there are policies and guidelines relating to when it is appropriate and inappropriate to leave warning templates? Firstly, it is considered inappropriate to warn experienced editors using warning templates unless their behavior is egregious. Secondly, it is extremely poor form to warn someone to not break 3RR when you broke it. Looking at your profile, you're fairly young, so I'll just let this go, but no, me disagreeing with your removal of content and disagreeing with your interpretation of policies and guidelines does not constitute WP:OWN. The fact that two people disagree with you should tell you that you may have the wrong of it. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 04:42, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Cool beans. IzzySwag (talk) 04:43, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do not call me dude, thank you. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 04:43, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new to WikiProject Pokémon...

[edit]

So I'm new BTW, and I'm interested to create an article about "Eeveelutions"...is it OK with you? Sparkschu Itai (talk) 08:16, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Actually never mind, it's said on here💦 Sparkschu Itai (talk) 08:19, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to work on it here - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 08:28, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Cukie Gherkin: hi, I was wondering if, like you did with Ali Abdul's draft, you could post a list of links to Jun-ho's reception, concept, and creation. I think we can move forward, since aside from the reception he has in the third season, there won't be much new about the concept and creation.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to let you know that I'll probably finish Ali Abdul's draft tomorrow so I can post it. I'm telling you this in case you can help me develop Jun-ho's draft. Also, if you have any other character drafts that you've finished link-finding for, you can send them to me and I'll develop them. Marco camino 10 (talk) 12:16, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I believe Ali is the only one who I have finished collecting sources for. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 18:20, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I made some edits, mainly moving content from Concept and creation to Reception. To be clear, analyses should not be treated as conceptual information unless it's to describe a character's personality. Content such as talking about the relationship between Sang-woo and Ali, for instance, should be under reception, but just as important, the opinions should be attributed to the author and website. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 18:29, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, I thought that was part of the character's concept, but there is a point to what you're arguing. For the next ones, I'll know how to do it better.
I've also added, for you to know, to your draft of Hwang Jun-ho what I started in another draft, and I'll continue developing it in yours when you provide me with more sources. Although I'll look for more myself. Marco camino 10 (talk) 19:10, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your drafts

[edit]

I'd like to know if you could include links about Cho Sang-woo and Hwang Jun-ho in your drafts these days, at least Sang-oo, since he's a character whose run has ended.

And since I'm going to finish Ali Abdul's, I can continue with those. I could also look for No-eul and Dae-ho's so we can speed up the process and turn them into articles when the third season premieres. But as I mentioned in the previous matter, until you can give me more links I will keep searching and adding more information. Marco camino 10 (talk) 19:08, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ali Abdul draft

[edit]

@Cukie Gherkin: hi, in my opinion, I've finished Ali Abdul's draft. There are a few links left that you can add if you want, but in the end, the information is very repetitive, and in the last ones I've read, it's almost impossible to find anything new that's relevant or that isn't already posted. That's why I'd like you to take a look at it before I publish it as an article. Marco camino 10 (talk) 12:53, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Stranger Things Characters

[edit]

Hey @Cukie Gherkin: I know we're currently working on Squid Game characters, but I was wondering if you could also look into searching links and such for articles about Stranger Things characters who don't have one yet, so we can have them before Volume 1 premieres in November, since there's a lot of info with 4 seasons. Thanks. Marco camino 10 (talk) 11:49, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that it's a strong start, and I think may survive if brought to AfD, though I would seek out further sources (especially in Japanese). Also, is there anymore info on her creation or further development? - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 19:34, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't find much about her development info, but yeah, much more could be expanded from ref no. 4, but I decided to make it concise and easy to understand for casuals. Kazama16 (talk) 19:48, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Earthbound 64

[edit]

I took a shot at User:Cukie Gherkin/EarthBound 64. The last part is really the hardest part – combining the two different development sections. It may take me a while to figure out how to bring the two together without too much repetition. It may also be the case that some of the development is better left at the Mother 3 article? I'm not sure yet. But I'm interested in your initial thoughts. I know it can be done with the right approach. Shooterwalker (talk) 14:07, 20 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started

[edit]

Hi Cukie Gherkin. Thank you for your work on Undyne. Another editor, 11wallisb, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Article reads fine, may be good to go over it just once to make it as encyclopaedic as possible though. Also, I spot checked one of the sources for a quote specifically, "being heroically punched in the face". The source from Polydon does not contain this quote. I would ask to recheck the sources you have used in instances such as this so the article can pass verifiability. I have removed the numerous [citation needed] tags that were in the appearances as they made the section look messy, and the top banner highlights the issue. I am going to uphold this banner as the section could do with some more sources to verify what has been written. This is a good article, it just needs polishing for mainspace. Once these things are done I will mark the article as reviewed at WP:NPP. Thank you!

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|11wallisb}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Alternate "history of video games" articles

[edit]

Hello - After the many discussions about numbered console generations, it's clear to me that

  • generally, people seem to agree it's a bad framework for reporting on console history, but
  • people are afraid to change what we have now without a clear vision of an alternative.

I believe that a major part of the problem is that the system is so ingrained within Wikipedia, people are having difficulty envisioning how an alternative would look / function. Even renaming the "Xth generation" articles to their nearest year range is viewed as simply unimaginable, though we all recognize that they basically are already written this way.

So I've narrowed my focus at this time to one goal, which is to create articles that follow a chronology rather than a taxonomy, and then once they're in a good state press for those to become the presentation in History of video game consoles especially the navbox / infobox and main entry point page. I have been working on the timeline setup by cutting up sections of the "generations" articles, re-wording them, and blocking into half-decade increments. You can see some of my work in progress on the main timeline (up through 1999 or so today):

User:Hornpipe2/VGHistory/History_of_video_game_consoles

as well as my previous revision of the 9th -> 2020-present (which could now be improved further by folding the Switch 2 into the header area etc):

User:Hornpipe2/VGHistory/History_of_video_game_consoles_(2020-present)

This is all quite draft-y, I may have lost some sources or table rows, but I hope that you can see where I am going with it.

I am messaging you to ask if you have any interest in helping work on this set of articles. Would you have any time to review these as I complete them (or when I'm done and WP:DRAFTIFY), or would you have any time to help with writing (in which case I could WP:DRAFTIFY now)? It's not a zero amount of effort, but it is less than you might think - because again, the source articles are already pretty close to this anyway.

Once the numbered system is no longer load-bearing for Wikipedia, it becomes easier to have discussions about its usefulness or reliability. Again the purpose of this is strictly to get Wikipedia away from using numbered-generations as the primary reference on console history, which I feel the solution outlined above would accomplish neatly, and is less contentious than options like pushing for RfC now. Yoshi's New Island feedback?

[edit]

Hello Cukie Gherkin, I hope all is well. I don't mean to be a bother, but after some extended careful contemplation, I'm considering nominating Yoshi's New Island for FA for a fourth (and hopefully—fate willing—final) time. Before I do so, however, I'd like to save some time and ensure that I haven't lost any support after making a handful of edits to the article. Do you think you could find a brief moment to look over the article and let me know if you have any other suggestions? Much appreciated! ★ The Green Star Collector ★ (talk) 21:55, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I see no issues with the changes made since the last FAC. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 22:15, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User:Cukie Gherkin/Ref ideas

[edit]

Your file User:Cukie Gherkin/Ref ideas has 222 Fostered content lint errors. Just looking at the page, it's plain that all the content that's supposed to be inside each table border is displaying above each table border. When you have table markup with stuff "in" a table but not in a table cell, it is fostered content and displays above the table. Please see what you can do about this. —Anomalocaris (talk) 09:36, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I actually copy/pasted it from Wikipedia: WikiProject Video games/Video game characters/Index and just kind of threw up my hands when I saw that it came out a little glitchy. I'd been meaning to ask the person who constructed it what I did wrong, but never got 'round to it Cukie Gherkin (talk) 13:24, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

About the infobox picture on Rena Ryūgū

[edit]

Hi, I'd like to explain why I used File:Rena Ryūgū.jpg in the infobox of the article. I believe this image better depicts Rena's usual appearance and full-body structure. The image also features her iconic weapon, a cleaver. As long as an image is official, we just need to choose the most recognizable and representative one. Overall, I think this image is more suitable than File:Rena Ryugu.png. That's just how I see it. SKBNK (talk) 09:19, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I feel that the previous lead image has redundancy issues with the Usoda image; comparatively, visually, there's nothing that visually identifies the moeblob aspect of the character, Looking at the reception, Seraphita, Lada, a and Miao seem to discuss the character's multiple personalities/personality shift as a major aspect of the character. I believe rather strongly that only depicting one half of the character does a disservice to the reader, as a large part of why the character is so notable is the contrast. As far as her weapon goes, since it is a real-world weapon, there is a possibility to find an image of a real nata (like this [1]) released under a Creative Commons license. If you feel strongly about it, I recommend that you open a discussion here to get more input. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 09:36, 9 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Um, how about [2], [3] or [4]? I think it's better to show casual clothes instead of the school uniform. We don't necessarily have to use the artwork by Ryukishi07, because, well, you know, it's kind of weird, and the official works have better illustrations. SKBNK (talk) 14:25, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by official works? Is the original Higurashi non-official? Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:49, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, both original Higurashi and Hou are official works, but the character art in the latter is more refined compared to the former. The art drawn by Mr. Ryukishi07 for the original version appears somewhat odd. So, you see, since both are official works, why not use the one with more polished art? SKBNK (talk) 02:04, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, polished is not necessarily better. To be honest, as someone familiar with Higurashi in passing, I understand it based on the goofy moeblobs than anything else. I'd suggest bringing this up on WT:VG to form a consensus on original Ryugu versus more modern Ryugu. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 02:06, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Based on past discussion archives this kind of issue will most likely be ignored. SKBNK (talk) 02:47, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Try bringing it up WT:VG/VGC instead, the task force is a lot more interested in this kind of thing. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 02:55, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It seems there's already a conclusion and no further discussion will follow. I'll upload a new image on File:Rena Ryugu.png. SKBNK (talk) 10:01, 14 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
