Age and female fertility external link
[edit]WP:ELDEAD has instructions on steps to take if an external link rots. Happy editing :) 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) 22:05, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- Awe! Thanks friend! I appreciate you! Not only did you fix it but you showed me how!
- Would it be too much trouble if I reached out to you for help or questions in the future? I have an assigned "mentor" but they haven't been active since December. JesseL0vesT0ast (talk) 22:44, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- That would be fine :) 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) 22:50, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- Great! Thank you so much! May the toast be with you. (talk) 18:38, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Again @45dogs! I didn't expect to need to reach out so soon but here we are! I'm poking through this article Dark Social Media and the first reference from Chartbeat is a blog. Its used multiple times in the article. Do I go through and put the "better source needed" template by each one or is there another thing to do in this situation? Thank you! Jesse (May the toast be with you.) (talk) 19:37, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Honestly, the article has a much bigger issue with that link: its completely dead, at least for me. I also checked archive.today and archive.org, with no results. Per WP:BLOG, blogs can be used in certain situations, but I don't think chartbeat is one of those situations, in that it isn't a blog site. Looking at the company, it appears to be an 'internet traffic analytics' company, so that blog is probably more reliable than other blog sources. Also, this might have similar content to the broken link. While it is sourced throughout the article, it is used most prominently to back up one line;
An updated Charbeat report also confirmed that part of the Dark Social traffic was generated by Facebook mobile app and its own users.
In this case, if the possible updated link I showed contains the same information (note, I am not entirely sure it does), then the link should likely be replaced, so long as the other parts of the article that bring up the source aren't contradicted by the source. Otherwise, perhaps a rewrite of the sentence is in order. At the very least, in this case I don't think it being containing blog in its url means it should be gotten rid of, since the company seems to be focused on this type of work. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) 21:41, 14 August 2025 (UTC)- Nevermind, it appears the link isn't totally lost, here. It does have issues, since its still a primary source. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) 22:39, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- But as for the template, I believe you shouldn't over use it, instead put it next to the references that actually have the urls, not the <ref name="">. I've put one in the article, next to the source in question. Also, for concerns over original research, there is a template for that; see Template:Original research inline, rather than just using Template:Citation needed. 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) 22:45, 14 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for looking so far in to it! I just learned so much in the last 5 minutes reading this! Jesse (May the toast be with you.) (talk) 16:16, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
