Abu Hasan Muhammed Jahangir (born 1970) is a Bangladeshi businessperson based in Canada. He worked in Bangladesh's textile and garment sector from 1993 until the late 2010s, including advocating for policy changes, and has operated companies in British Columbia since moving there in 2018. He served as secretary of the committee that successfully proposed Port Alberni as an official pre-tournament training site for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the only non-host city in Canada to receive that designation at the time.[1][2]
Early life and education
[edit]Jahangir was born in 1970 in Jamalpur District, Bangladesh.[3] He holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka.[4]
Career
[edit]Jahangir began working in Bangladesh's textile industry in 1993, founding Buyer Link Ltd, a garment-accessory supplier. He later became associated with the Apex Textile Group and served as a director of One Spinning Mills Limited.[5]
In 2022, One Spinning Mills was named in an Anti-Corruption Commission case over alleged loan irregularities.[6] In a separate money-laundering case involving the company, Jahangir testified as a defence witness in 2013; the accused were acquitted in 2025.[7]
He moved to Canada in 2018.[3] In 2019 he established Pacific Fraser Bay Sourcing Inc in Richmond, British Columbia, and in 2022 founded Agrohope Farms & Product Inc in Port Alberni.
Since 2023 he has held several community positions in British Columbia, including second vice-chair of the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce (2025–2026 term).[8]
In 2025, as secretary of the Alberni Valley Organizing Committee for FIFA 2026 Activities, he helped secure official recognition from FIFA for Port Alberni as a Team Base Camp training site for the 2026 World Cup.[1][9] On 17 November 2025, he presented to Port Alberni City Council seeking support for upgrades to Bob Dailey Stadium and related facilities; the council approved a special meeting and agreed to provide logistical assistance, contingent on successful fundraising.[10]
Personal life
[edit]Jahangir has been married since 1995 and has two children.
