Appropriateness RE the See Also Section

Hiya!

I've written one article, M. Laura Feltri, the late former director of the university department where I work (this is conflict of interest has been disclosed). Our department a "legacy page" for her (found here) which lists her awards, grants, a professional summary in her own words, etc. This page has not been cited in the article, but may be of interest for curious readers. Would this be appropriate to list in a See Also section? Additionally, it's my understanding that it's frowned upon to cite sources published by her department or university - is this the case?

Thank you! RileyRobbins (talk) 14:34, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Hey @RileyRobbins, I'd recommend putting it in a new 'External Links' section below the references. That's typically for any links leaving Wikipedia, as See also is for other wiki pages.
It is frowned upon to cite sources published by a primary source, but not completely barred. You can use a primary source if it is reputably published, used to cite simple facts, and not "analyzed, evaluated, interpreted, or synthesized". Extra caution should be taken to check that everything that's being verified is actually explicitly said in the source and secondary sources should still make up the large majority of sources. If you have any further Qs or specific examples please let me know!
Hope this helps, Encoded  Talk 💬 17:29, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Edit Request Revisons

Hi @Encoded, thank you for reviewing my COI edit request on Talk:Matthew Hoffman (TV host). Unfortunately it was declined, though I'd like to resubmit it based on the feedback provided. To resubmit this request, would it be best for me to submit a new request entirely, edit the existing one, or provide the edited information in a reply to the original request?

Thank you, MapleTrail92 (talk) 16:10, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey @MapleTrail92, the easiest will probably be to edit the existing request. To re-add the request to the queue remove the parameters from the edit coi template. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 16:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Sergeevich92 (14:30, 2 October 2025)

Hello. I work for the company that develops drug buntanetap. I wanted to modify the information on Wiki because the current page is outdated and has wrong facts. I wrote a new article and provided links. It was reverted back to old version now. Why? --Sergeevich92 (talk) 14:30, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Sergeevich92, welcome to Wikipedia. The edit in question was reverted due to Most of your references do not satisfy MEDRS and also fail verification. Question from The Transhumanist (06:59, 13 October 2025)

Dear mentor,

There's this new feature called Home Page, and when I went on it, there was a section in the corner that says your my mentor! There was a box to communicate to you through, to ask any question, and so, I was wondering if I could pick your brain about the impact of Wikipedia on AI and vice versa...

Where in the Wikimedia community is AI (in relation to Wikipedia) being discussed?

I'm interested in the impact AI is making on Wikipedia, including reduced traffic, reduction in editors, AI-generated content on Wikipedia, AI out competing Wikipedia with on-demand near-instant AI-generated articles by conversation bots, and anything else pertaining to Wikipedia-AI.

Is Wikipedia in danger of going the way of the dinosaurs due to AI? And if so, when?

Or, will Wikipedia adapt by itself being developed into an AI?

Please respond on my talk page.

Thank you.

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   06:59, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

P.S.: I don't recall signing up for a mentor. Would you please check to see how I got one?

EuroStack page controversy again

Hello @Encoded -- thank you for your help recently on the EuroStack page. Can you help again? A brand new account seems to want to associate unrelated and seemingly controversial content about Cristina Caffarra's past (none really, while the cast with TikTok is interesting and important, it's one in a hundred clients in her career -- and the link is thin!!), but it misses the mark. The account is brand new, no track record, etc... How do we create balance, neutrality and transparency with accounts that pop out of nowhere? Thank you! Ylechelle (talk) 12:47, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey I've reverted the account's edit and sent them an edit warning. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 09:47, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you! Unfortunately, your warning seems to have been ignored. 2A04:CEC0:C017:D38E:594C:AE54:B58:F60F (talk) 16:29, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
Hey, I messaged directly and they said they don't have any conflict to declare, not much I can do other than that without more proof/someone with more power to check - if you wanted to you can escalate to WP:COIN to ask for that but I'll leave that up to you. I've added the article to my watchlist anyways so I'll keep an eye on it because I think the claims being added are WP:BLP violations anyways. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 22:28, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
Just pinging you a reply here to give you an update, the content they've added is now properly sourced, if you wanted it removed you'd have to gain consensus. Since it's properly sourced I'd say it's fine to stay unless there's a compelling reason for it's removal, and if you wanted consensus on its removal I'd step aside during that discussion as an involved editor and let others discuss in this case. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 07:00, 14 October 2025 (UTC)

1982 America's Junior Miss District of Columbia

Hello, I would like to request the addition of verified information regarding my participation in the 1982 America’s Junior Miss national competition.

I, Maxine D. Shelton, was the official Miss District of Columbia for America’s Junior Miss 1982. Although this information is not currently listed, it can be verified through:

The official 1982 national program, which includes the show order and portrait pages of all 52 contestants (including myself).

Records maintained by Distinguished Young Women headquarters in Mobile, Alabama (formerly America’s Junior Miss). For accuracy and documentation purposes, I respectfully request that the following statement be added:

Maxine D. Shelton represented the District of Columbia in the 1982 America’s Junior Miss national competition (now known as Distinguished Young Women).

Thank you for helping ensure the historical record accurately reflects verified participation.

Best Regards,

Maxine D. Shelton Templescarellc (talk) 23:14, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Templescarellc, unfortunately that article only lists the winners of the national competition, not individual state winners. It'd be quite long in that case! Unless it's a particularly notable win for some reason (e.g. first X winner) it would typically not be documented. I'd recommend asking on that page's Talk:America's Junior Miss as the folks over there will know more about it than I do, thanks! Encoded  Talk 💬 17:05, 16 October 2025 (UTC)

To request edits to his page you should use the edit request wizard. We ask that all users with conflicts of interests do this so that it can be reviewed by an impartial editor.
It can sometimes take a week or two for edits to be reviewed depending on how busy it gets but you can usually speed it along by messaging one of the reviewers and asking if they'd be happy to look at it. Thanks, and welcome to Wikipedia! Encoded  Talk 💬 16:58, 16 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi mentor,

I’ve drafted an article about Openly, Inc., an American insurance technology company, at User:WhiteFactLoom/Openly, Inc..

Could you please review it and share feedback on its notability and sourcing before I submit it to Articles for Creation (AfC)?

Thanks! --WhiteFactLoom (talk) 04:26, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

Hey, looks like a good article! A few of the insurance journal sources are coming up as page not found for me, will be worth looking at before submitting. archive.org and archive.ph might have copies saved that you can use. I'd also suggest merging funding into history as it could come across as promotional/having undue weight to some editors, but that is up to you! If you need anything else please let me know! Seeking feedback on a Wikipedia work page

Hi @Encoded! I wanted to ask if you might be willing to help with a small issue on the Wikipedia work page that lists companies and editors involved in paid editing. Outspoken is currently listed under “undisclosed editors,” but I’ve always disclosed my paid status by adding COI tags to the talk pages of any articles I’ve worked on.

Since you’ve seen my past work and know that I follow Wikipedia’s disclosure policies, I thought you might be a good neutral editor to help move or correct that entry. I’m not blocked from editing the page, but I’d rather avoid any appearance of impropriety by requesting assistance from someone independent. I'd appreciate any feedback or help that you could provide.

Here’s the link to the page for reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_of_paid_editing_companies#Outspoken_Media SBCornelius (talk) 18:37, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi @SBCornelius, I certainly agree that you follow the disclosure policies. Your userpage alone should prove that. I'm sorry to hear you've been put in the undisclosed section of that list. I've moved you down to the disclosed section which lists paid editors that correctly follow policy, since I've not seen any evidence to suggest you've done any non-disclosure whatsoever. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 19:16, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Encoded,

I hope you’ve been doing well! I wanted to quickly follow up here (since I wasn’t sure if you’d seen my email earlier). Thank you again for all your guidance with the Sanket Goel article. It’s been really helpful in improving the draft and ensuring compliance with COI and neutrality guidelines.

The draft has now been submitted for a while now, and I just wanted to check if there’s anything further I should be doing to make it easier to review, or if it’s best to simply wait in the queue. I completely understand that reviews take time and appreciate all the volunteer effort that goes into this process.

What are some general editing rules I should know? For example, what to link and what not to link. Thanks! --Qzvm (talk) 16:46, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

Hey, generally for what to link we have the concept of reliable sources, in short - if it's secondary (independent of the article's subject), has significant coverage of the article's subject (not just a passing mention), and is reputably published it's typically ok! News articles, websites, newspaper clippings, etc. are great examples. If there's any particular sources you'd like help with feel free to send them over and I can give you my thoughts.
The best way to learn is by visiting the introduction - there's a tonne of policies and guidelines, don't worry if you can't remember them all, I still find myself looking stuff up sometimes! As long as you edit with good faith and are open to discussing any concerns or issues, you'll be fine! I'm also a big fan of being bold!
