Uncited material added again after reversion

[edit]
Resolved

On August 25, I reverted an edit to Gloria Blondell because the statements about her parentage had no citation. At that time, I posted a comment on the talk page to explain the reason for reversion. No one has replied to the talk-page post, but today someone added the same information (again with no citation). Should the latest change remain with no verification? I don't want to get into an edit war. Eddie Blick (talk) 00:26, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Already handled by lightning Orangemike. Lourdes 01:36, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

you'r articals tell about a subject, but have no contact information. i was reading about forestry information for land owners, when i clicked on native tribes, it took me to a page about the history of native Americans but nothing about land owners. i expected to go to a page about help programs for natives, after all i was looking at a forestry resource assistance program page that had the link. and there is no link to any agency or person to contact to apply for assistance or help from. so from my point of view, your information is incomplete and worthless, it is information, yes. but useless information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.115.134.197 (talk) 05:24, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Providing names of individuals as contact persons in our articles sometimes goes against our privacy policy and/or anti-promotional policy. I can understand that yes, agency links can be provided in certain pages detailing forestry resource assistance programs. As every US State has a discrete program, would you be able to mention which article were you specifically referring to? Warmly, Lourdes 05:47, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Someone is messing with Wikipedia pages

[edit]

Editor49 is messing with Wikipedia pages and writing misleading information about some people.

Please do recheck Benedict Cumberbatch's Wikipedia page as it has extremely misleading information about him.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor14000605 (talkcontribs) 05:48, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Handled by Eagleash, who has left them a warning (given their long history of unconstructive edits, I would perhaps suggest an immediate block at the relevant desk). Lourdes 05:58, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @Editor14000605: The disruption has been reverted and the editor warned. They are trying to blame a younger sibling. In most cases you would be free to undo the edits yourself but this particular page has been protected so only autoconfirmed accounts can edit it. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 06:03, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thank you for that. Was really bothering me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor14000605 (talkcontribs) 06:10, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear All,

Please help me in finding out the problem with the page.

I need to get it approved. It has been lying as a draft for a long time now.

Best,

Ankit — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ankitnigam1986 (talkcontribs) 05:50, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you "need to get it approved"? Are you connected with the university? The draft reads like an advert. You need to modify the text to an encyclopaedic style. Also add the "Reflist" template at the bottom, and remove your bolding of headings. Dbfirs 06:01, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ankitnigam1986: The page is not currently submitted for review. If you wish it to be so add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the page. This will place it at Afc where there is a possible 8 week wait for review. As implied by Dbfirs, you can as WP:AUTOCONFIRMED move it to mainspace yourself. I have fixed some of the formatting / layout issues but the points raised by Dbfirs should also be addressed before submittinmg or moving. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 06:18, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ankitnigam1986: PS, you cannot use Wikipedia as a reference. Please see WP:UGC. Eagleash (talk) 06:33, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also a lot of it is just copied from their website. Which is a copyvio and also just an advert. Joseph2302 (talk) 07:14, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Mediacpge: Hello, this is not the right place for proposed article content. Please see WP:YFA, AFC and WP:DRAFT. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 06:50, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no right place for such content, which is an obviously promotional resume. EEng 15:42, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of an article for deletion

[edit]

I have tried to nominate an article for deletion, but things did not seem to work out. This was the article on Caroline Nicholls. I tried to follow the instructions at Wikipedia: Articles for deletion and got the tag saying "This article is being considered for deletion - please share your thoughts on this article's entry" heading the page, but at the list of entries on Wikipedia: Articles for deletion, this does not appear to be there. Can you please explain to me what I have done wrong? Many thanks in advance for your help. Vorbee (talk) 07:37, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Vorbee: You made several errors. Next time, try using the "Preloaded debate" link on the article to create the deletion page. Also do step III at WP:AFDHOWTO. I have done it this time.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 10:06, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do I identify contributions that have been undone by someone?

[edit]

How do I do this?

I received this message

"Hello, I'm Geunineart. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Philip MacDonald have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help Desk. Thanks. Genuine Art 14:28, 30 July 2018 (UTC)"

I am surprised Genuineart knows more than me and am interested to know what he has undone — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.99.71.71 (talk) 10:30, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) You can see the page history here and the specific edit by @GenuineArt: (pinging GA out of courtesy) is here. If you wish to discuss it with the other editor please raise at the article talk page or their own talk page. Or hopefully GA will comment in this thread. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 10:53, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tony, you wrote in a previous message on this Help desk that you are Philip's biographer. I should recommend you immediately read our conflict of interest guidelines and most importantly our paid-contribution disclosure policy and adhere to the requirements of these before editing any further. Thanks, Lourdes 10:59, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I had made that revert because the edits were not so easy to read. Long section titles are not needed. You can make separate sections for "Film", "Television", and "Script" where Philip MacDonald contributed. GenuineArt (talk) 13:23, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Hello again, Both of these templates ({{Back to contents}} & {{Skip to talk}}) have same result, but {{Skip to talk}} do not take you to anywhere that associated to talking! "talk" and "toc" are two defferent words. ئارام بکر (talk) 10:50, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ئارام بکر, the template is a misnamed template. It should have been named {{Skip to Table of Contents}} or {{Skip to toc}} (short form for "table of contents"). Sorry for that. If there's anything else you need assistance in, do tell. Lourdes 11:02, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No Lourdes, thank you so much. Just move the template to the correct name. Thank you again! ئارام بکر (talk) 11:41, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It had this name for 10 years and the poor name {{Skiptotoctalk}} before that. I have explained the purpose in the documentation.[2] PrimeHunter (talk) 14:11, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please amend reference number 27 - it is in red. Sorry Thankyou 175.33.211.40 (talk) 12:23, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Kosack (talk) 12:30, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot to log in before editing an article.

[edit]

While I frequently read Wikipedia, I rarely contribute, and when I did decide to edit a page a few minutes ago, I absentmindedly forgot to log in before editing the page. A link to the edit I made is included at the end of this post. I assume there is no way for the user of record for the edit I made to be listed as my username instead? I wouldn't mind except I'm worried about having accidentally engaged in sockpuppetry.

That is totally fine, and there are legitimate reasons to not use your logged in account, for example in unsafe wifi network/public computer. As long as you are not evading any bans on editing or giving appearance of being multiple users (e.g evading 3 revert rule or commenting in consensus thread) you can use anonymous/multiple accounts. See Wikipedia:Sock_puppetry#Editing_while_logged_outShushugah (talk) 16:01, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Pizzaguy875: Edits cannot be reassigned. An IP address can be hidden for privacy reasons (see Wikipedia:Requests for oversight) but that is apparently not your concern. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:05, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: That's totally fine; my only concern was having accidentally violated policy, but it looks like that is not the case, so I am all set now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pizzaguy875 (talkcontribs) 16:28, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Contribution

[edit]

I attributed the article I posted to The Associated Press. The article had been publicly published in The Boston Globe. The information posted was a verbatim copy of the article. A factual acurate repreentation.

Please advise how to put the source back on line.

Thank you--AndsowegivetodaytoYou (talk) 17:11, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AndsowegivetodaytoYou, entire articles from references don't belong in the text of a Wikipedia article. References should be just that, a reference. If you want to include information from an article, only include the parts that you need, in your own words, and then use that article as a reference. You can think of it a bit like writing a paper for a school class. If you had a paper due on the country of Venezuela then you wouldn't simply be able to hand in a newspaper article. You would need to re-write what was written in your own words and then submit that. †dismas†|(talk) 19:14, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated changes to Toronto municipal election, 2018

[edit]

Hello,

I have been updating the page for Toronto municipal election, 2018, but there is a note on one candidate (Christina Liu, Ward 17) that I disagree with and that an IP user and I have been doing an edit war on. They have not responded to my requests to post on the Talk page for that article, or on their talk page. I am hoping for help to resolve this conflict, but this is definitely low priority. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by RobRoyDuncan (talkcontribs) 20:20, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've warned the user against edit warring, so we will see what happens. 331dot (talk) 20:25, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
They don't seem to care, and have reverted to their preferred version of that article. RobRoyDuncan (talk 20:57, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Now blocked for edit warring. 331dot (talk) 21:18, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How best to report a suspected IP sock?

[edit]

An IP editor is repeating the behaviour of the editor blocked as a result of this SPI. As best I understand it, SPI / checkuser is only for registered accounts, not IPs. What's the right place to report the issue? › Mortee talk 22:52, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
