Consensus Inclusion Criteria for Text in This Article

  • Real world aircraft (not fictional or made-up aircraft) that have significant roles in books, films, video games and as toys, provided reliable refs are supplied.
  • For fictional characters who assume the form of an aircraft - inclusion only as a one sentence summary and only for primary aircraft, not one-time configurations.
  • All media types included under article subheadings by aircraft type with at least one link to the article about the aircraft type itself.
  • The aircraft must have a significant role in the work and not simply being seen. Appearances in games are considered non-notable except for notable games dedicated to the specific aircraft.
  • Third party references are needed to show the notability of the appearance. Primary references, such as the book, game or movie itself, are not sufficient for inclusion.
  • Aircraft type articles that have entries here should have Notable appearances in media sections that simply refer to this article.

The Rehearsal Season 2 Finale

[edit]

I am wondering if the real-world flight of a Boeing 737 in the final episode of The Rehearsal Season 2 is applicable to be included in this article as it is not strictly "fiction", but it is a media production.

I don't think it fits this page exactly but it does seem like a notable event and I was hoping to find a Wikipedia page that features media productions that involve the use of real aircraft flights.

If anyone knows of a page that fits that description, I would really appreciate knowing about it. WaveCommander (talk) 21:25, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Heavy Metal

[edit]

What about the B-17 Flying Fortress in Heavy Metal (1981)? 191.57.14.51 (talk) 02:37, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fairchild F.24 (UC-61)

[edit]

It is most unlikely it appeared in "The Moonraker" unless the Cavaliers or Roundheads took to the sky. Possibly a misprint for "The Glenn Miller Story" in which one does make a brief appearance. 121.45.248.119 (talk) 11:04, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Significance Cleanup

[edit]

I've noticed this article is bloated with non-notable entries. Per MOS:POPCULT, Cultural aspects of the subject should be included only if they are supported by reliable secondary or tertiary sources that discuss the subject's cultural impact in some depth. I've started a general cleanup, where I'll be removing entries that have no mention of the relevant aircraft, which have only a passing mention of the aircraft, or which are sourced to unreliable sources. I just added (B-29 section) the movie : The Wild Blue Yonder (1951 film) ... and 37 minutes later, someone did an UNDO bacause 'unsourced addition'. Well... If the given Wiki page isn't sufficient, please watch the movie on Youtube ! The love story is nuts regarding the B-29 and its crew; this movie is closer to Twelve O'Clock High than a true romance (but failed to attract good critics). By the way, one of the adventures (at 44 mn) is the real story of Henry E. Erwin that occurred during mission 65. Note that wikipedia is not a reliable source. Per the OP, if there isn't a source discussing the cultural impact attached to the entry in this list, it does not belong in this list. For the rest, it may be a lovely movie, but per WP:NOTAFORUM, this isn't the place to discuss our opinions of movies. EducatedRedneck (talk) 20:37, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. I added this movie following the link "Notable appearances in media" section at the B-29 wiki page. I'm not english-spoken native so I perhaps misunterstand "Notable" but a 98 minutes movie with only 25 relative to a love story is highly dedicated to the B-29. Featured several wartime footage (as the ditching and rescue of "Hopefull-Devil" on March 9, 1945) and the film focuses on showing the work of the pilots, bombardier, radar operator and radio operator. We therefore see more than in the three films about Enola Gay.
As a source is required :
ref. book "Aircraft-Spotter's Film and Television Companion" ; author : Simon D. Beck ; editor : McFarland & Co Inc. (c) 2016
is this one enough reliable ?
If right, page 216 about this movie itself + page 8 (B-29 airframe used) and page 256 (B-29 movie list)

I don't have access to that text. Can you provide a quote? Per the OP, the passage(s) selected should discuss the cultural impact of the B-52 in some depth. With the details you provided, and quote(s) showing that, that should be enough for inclusion. Thank you for taking the time to work on this! @McSly Regarding the Mirage 2000, it may well be notable, but per the page's guidance, Third-party references are needed to show the notability of the appearance. Primary references, such as the book, game or movie itself, are not sufficient for inclusion. Aerofiles appears to be one person's website, thus not a WP:RS, and even if it were, does not explain the cultural impact. I hope that clarifies my removal. Caption conventions

[edit]

I notice that several of the images in this article identify the aircraft my make and model (e.g., "Grumman F-4 Tomcat"), some only by model (e.g., "F-4 Phantom"), and some straddle the line in odd ways (e.g., "MD DC-10"). Do we have a convention for how to refer to aircraft in image captions? My knee-jerk reaction is, if it's hyperlinked, use only the model per MOS:CAPSUCCINCT; if searching for a term leads you directly to the page of the aircraft, that term is sufficient to identify it, and any more words are superfluous. If nobody objects, I may add caption cleanup to the tasks I'm plugging away on for this page. EducatedRedneck (talk) 18:10, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
