As you have already noticed, you should always sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. Unless you have a source that states that Fritzl was inspired by Sally, we can't say so. See WP:OR for more information. Note that the table is missing No, No, Nanette. Also, would you please re-order the table so that the oldest productions go first? Also, why not include his London stage credits too? Thanks. -- 17:34, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

These are good points. I just put the productions in that order. I explain in the article that "No, No, Nanette" was a show that he had left when it was a pre-Broadway production. I just added London stage credits to a new table and "No, No, Nanette" to the original table.
The article is coming along well; good job. I bet you can find out more of his early London credits. The George Edwardes shows were very successful, so it would be worthwhile to list more of them in the table. I recommend that, if you look at reviews of them, you try to figure out whether he was really directing them. Often, in those days, director was actually referred to as "stage manager", because he told people where to stand on the stage. Some theatrical history: Prior to the 1860s, there was no such thing as a "director". Shows were usually staged minimally either by the star of the show or by the theatre manager, and actors were pretty much left to their own devices and often mostly devised their own minimalist staging. Plus, the use of the stage was minimal. There were very few rehearsals! If, for example, the play called for a family dinner, a stagehand would bring a table onstage with the number of chairs needed, and everyone would sit down. When the table was no longer needed, the stagehand came back and took it off stage. This was changed by some innovators in the 1860s and 1870s, including T. W. Robertson, who directed the plays that he wrote and expected the actors to rehearse and obey his direction. Early on, the non-playwright directors were called "stage managers". Eventually, they were sometimes called directors (choreography was "musical staging"), although in Britain, directors were sometimes called producers, which is confusing, up until recent decades! -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:21, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found the theatre for his British stage credits. Starlighsky (talk) 03:42, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found some of his earlier London credits. Btw, we are not allowed to delete discussions from articles' Talk pages (although we can archive them), except in certain limited circumstances. You can delete whatever you want from your own Talk page, but it fools people into thinking that you are a newbie if they don't see older messages here. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:26, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I will try to undo it. It was just that the problem was solved. Now I know, thanks. Starlighsky (talk) 11:30, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Yvonne Man (December 1)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by WikiOriginal-9 was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

You first reference does not include the authors, year, page number etc; the second has no information that can be tracked --similar for the others. One approach is to use the automatic citation generator in the visual editor which formats them correctly. For details you can also look at WP:HOWCITE. Hello, Starlighsky

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Justiyaya, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Ubiquitous (adverb or adjective), for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Justiyaya}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Sorry Starlighsky, Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary should provide explanation to my reasoning behind the nomination. Justiyaya 09:06, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Justiyaya::This article is needed, the present link Ubiquitous links to Omnipresent, which does not explain the word found in many Wikipedia articles. However, that link to omnipresent needs to link to the correct description of ubiquitous.

Once that happens, adjective and adverb can removed from the title. The system won't allow two ubiquitous articles. Ubiquitous needs to link to here Starlighsky (talk) 13:47, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Medical statistics

[edit]

Hello - On my talk page, you said: I understand your line of reasoning, but the chart for probability distribution of CI is a standalone. You deleted everything I had written about CI. I am not sure how this can be repaired.

The chart for CI is an example of a statistic, so can stand alone. I don't understand your reasoning to emphasize CI among all the possible statistics, as it is not a rigorous determinant of significance, but rather an indicator of possible range. You also had entitled the section Use in medical literature, a broad section heading, but the content only addressed CI rather than more common and rigorous measures. For style of section subheads, see MOS:SECTIONS (not all caps).

Regarding "repair", this article is basically a WP:STUB and probably should be WP:MERGEd with Biostatistics. Perhaps you could consider working on a merger. As the banner says, the lists should be converted into prose. Also, all content is kept in article history, so everything is recoverable.

You might benefit from this link for formatting references. Check the ref tag, full journal title, and URL boxes. Zefr (talk) 00:52, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The general reader is not going to understand what CI with a chart and no explanation. I was trying to go from lists to prose. My reasoning what is used often in biomedical literature with a reference to how it used often in such literature. I can use your suggestions to introduce CI and related topics often found in the medical literature.
I will try to work on the merger as well.
All in all, it's no big deal...I just didn't know how to explain the chart with the deletion. Starlighsky (talk) 01:32, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Trapping mechanisms for carbon geosequestration

[edit]

Hello Starlighsky,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Melmann, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Trapping mechanisms for carbon geosequestration, for deletion, because there's already a page about that topic at Carbon sequestration. Please don't be discouraged; we appreciate your effort in creating new articles. To avoid this in the future, consider using the search function to find pages that already cover what you want to write about.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Melmann}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Melmann 06:24, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Melmann: I wrote in the Talk page the explanation of the article actually providing the needed links for Carbon sequestration. A lot of people don't realize that we can store carbon dioxide in underground storage as one of several ways to prevent global warming, but there is a risk of the CO2 leaking. The article about trapping mechanisms explains the published research on ways to prevent this serious type of leak. The article may be helpful information for many readers. Starlighsky (talk) 11:31, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To me, this is something that could have just been added to Carbon sequestration. But, as the speedy deletion was already reverted by an uninvolved editor, I'll leave it at that. Melmann 07:24, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your line of reasoning, but it would have made the carbon sequestration possibly too long and challenging to read in terms of the basic ideas. Carbon capture and storage also applies this topic. Fortunately, this artice provides content for the links from both articles on leak prevention. Starlighsky (talk) 12:59, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hyaluronic acid edit

[edit]

On my talk page, you said: The reference cited was published in the National Library of Medicine. I can more published, reliable references, but I want to ensure that the COVID relation is okay to publish with more references.

First, this is not a publication of the National Library of Medicine (NLM). It is listed on PubMed, which is a search, retrieval and abstract display service of NLM, described further in this FAQ. The publisher of the article you cited is Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology.

Second, as the Methods section in the article explains, the study was only of 217 people with Covid-19. It is a preliminary ("primary") research study, not a WP:MEDRS review which would justify use of a reference as a source.

There is not enough evidence yet to establish that hyaluronic acid is a reliable biomarker for Covid-19. Zefr (talk) 18:56, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

By means of genetic data mining techniques with the supercomputers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the lung-fluid samples from COVID-19 patients had a pattern of the overexpression of genes that produce bradykinin, while having a pattern of the underexpressing genes that would inhibit or break down bradykinin. The implication is a hyperabundance of bradykinin in a COVID-19 at the points of infection.

With WP:MEDRS as the background guideline for choosing content and sources, it's puzzling why you think this conjecture is important to mention for the encyclopedia: a) it's an unproven theory, WP:ENCYCLOPEDIC, b) it was produced by computer analysis, not by fully-developed clinical research, c) it's news, WP:NOTNEWS, not a MEDRS review of accepted clinical facts, and d) it's from an engineering institute, not an expert clinical organization; see WP:MEDORG.

You would do well to read the MEDRS guideline carefully, as you seem to have a misunderstanding for choosing good medical sources. Zefr (talk) 23:28, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources

[edit]

I reverted your recent edit to Enrica Soma because it cited a site on Wordpress, which is not a reliable source because it only hosts self-published blogs. You can check whether a commonly used source is considered reliable at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 20:10, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. It was just very challenging reference to find for a requested citation for that family of articles.
I will look for a better source. Starlighsky (talk) 23:31, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The blog post directly links to the original magazine which should work as a source, albeit a primary source that does not verify whether the photo was "later famous" (this phrase might need to be removed). Helpful Raccoon (talk) 23:59, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will look into it. I even went to Life Magazine's website but still had trouble finding it. Starlighsky (talk) 00:07, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on William Lawrence Hansen (Bill Hansen) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dale Wood (William Lawrence Hansen). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. It is a list from a government document, which is in public domain.
It is a list and had been partially rewritten to avoid any misunderstanding. Starlighsky (talk) 21:35, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The place where I found it is https://www.nadb.org/about/programs, and their terms and conditions indicate that the material is not available for commercial purposes, which is something that is allowed under the terms of our license. So no, you can't copy it here. Diannaa (talk) 22:04, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I went to the site. It is public domain in terms sites like Wikipedia:
NADBank maintains this Website for information purposes only. Users may download, copy and reprint information from the Website for non-commercial purposes, subject to any terms and conditions contained within materials expressly attributed to third parties, so long as NADBank is cited as the source of the originating material. Starlighsky (talk) 23:46, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not public domain; it is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License, which allows commercial use. Since the NADBank does not allow commercial use of their content, it's not compatibly licensed; you can't add it here. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:09, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
However, Wikipedia articles are not commercial use. This is an interesting issue. Starlighsky (talk) 12:28, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Our license allows the content of our website to be copied for any purpose, including commmercial use. This is the clause of the license that makes us unable to copy from websites such as https://www.nadb.org/about/programs that don't allow commerical use of their material. Diannaa (talk) 13:36, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this was misread. It is saying we can't post 3rd party information that may be on their site without permission and so on. However, we are allowed to post their information:
NADBank maintains this Website for information purposes only. Users may download, copy and reprint information from the Website for non-commercial purposes, subject to any terms and conditions contained within materials expressly attributed to third parties, so long as NADBank is cited as the source of the originating material. Users may not reprint or distribute material for which a third party is identified as the copyright holder, unless permission to do so is expressly permitted for such third-party material. Starlighsky (talk) 19:03, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but I don't think I am misinterpreting. They specify that material on their website cannot be reproduced for non-commercial purposes. They are smart people, and if they wished to release the material under a compatible license or to the public domain they could easily do so; instead they say not to use it for non-commercial purposes. If you wish to get a second opinion. please consider asking one of the people on this list. Diannaa (talk) 20:33, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see you are one of the copyright people on the list.
I will just give up on what I wrote. There is another version of the article in Spanish. I can translate that in place the appropriate citations. However, I have to give up on what I wrote. It didn't really matter anyway. Starlighsky (talk) 22:52, 30 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Grace Shipping Company (December 3)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted because it included copyrighted content, which is not permitted on Wikipedia.

File permission problem with File:Catherine Chen 1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Catherine Chen 1.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:27, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for clarifying the siource of this image. There are still issues regarding it's licensing that need to be resolved. Please also be advised that a "CC BY-NC-ND 4.0" copyright license is too restrictive for Wikipedia's purposes and the file can't be kept under such a license. So, if the copyright holder wants this image to be used on Wikipedia, they will need to verify provide some formal way for Wikipedia to verify their WP:CONSENT and they will need to release the file under one of the Creative Commons copyright licenses listed here. Please also understand that the copyright holder of a photo is, in principle, the person who takes the photo and not the person being photographed. So, if Catherine Chen didn't take this photo herself, Wikipedia will need to verify the consent of the person who did. If you've got any questions about this, you can ask them at WP:MCQ. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:35, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I emailed the consent form earlier today. Starlighsky (talk) 04:18, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for doing that. I fixed the syntax of the {{Permission pending}} template you added to the file's page so that it works as intended. For reference, you or whoever emailed VRT should've received a reply containing a VRT ticket number. This ticket number is sort of a reference number that the sender can use to ask VRT questions. If you or whoever emailed VRT didn't receive this reply, please check your spam folder or ask them to check their spam folder to see whether the reply is there. Once an VRT member has started reviewing the email, they should replace the pending template you added with {{Permission received}}. If everything checks out, they will replaced the "received" template with {{Permission ticket}}. If, on the other hand, there's an issue with the email, a VRT member will most likely email the sender to let them know what the problem is. The "pending" is only the first step in the process; so, if a week or so passes and nothing else happens; you can ask about the file at WP:VRTN. Please understand, though, that VRT can't go discuss the details of the emails they receive with anyone other than senders, and they won't discuss such details with anyone at all on any public page; they can, however, give general updates at VRTN.
Finally, if you're somehow connected to Chen either personally or professionally, please take a look at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for reference. The fact that either she or someone associated with her has sent you this photo, and you or someone else then emailed VRT about it, gives at least the appearance of an WP:APPARENTCOI. This doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, but only that there might be some things about Wikipedia that you don't know. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:13, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information and your assistance. I want to add that I don't know the subject. The project was referred to me from a third person because of earlier articles that I had written. I am not familiar with the copyright levels. What would be the correct setting for an image on the profile of a Wikipedia article? Starlighsky (talk) 23:46, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just a suggestion on this article. You can use the WP:INFOBOX template {{Infobox company}} at the top of the article to summarize the basic information about the company that comes later in the article. You can also add the company's logo file to the infobox, and move the stamp to another part of the article (ideally near content referring to it). You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images, Help:Pictures and WP:ACCIM for alternative and better ways to display all of the images in the article. Some of the galleries you're using are displaying the images at sizes that seem too big; they might look fine to you on the device you're using, but those sizes might cause problems for those reading Wikipedia using different devices. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:24, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Those are very good ideas, thanks. I will implement them when I have a chance. Thanks! Starlighsky (talk) 23:47, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Trace Fryer.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. File:Catherine Chen.jpg

[edit]

If File:Catherine Chen.jpg is nothing more than a cropped and enlarged version of File:Catherine Chen 1.jpg, then there's no need for it to be verified by Wikimedia VRT. You should just tag the file for speedy deletion per WP:G7, and then reupload the crop to Wikimedia Commons using the same license and file description as the original source image. You can then connect the two Commons files together using c:Template:Extracted from and c:Template:Extracted image. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:12, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

How do I mark for deletion? Starlighsky (talk) 14:08, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You can request the file be speedily deleted per WP:G7 if you want. Another option could be to explain what you did at WP:VRTN. A VRT member might be able to connect the two files together and verify that the email VRT for the original file also applies to the crop. If they can verify the file's licensing, the VRT member may even move the file to Commons if asked, but you can add the template {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} yourself if they don't. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:45, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Spinster300 was:

@Eyer: Why are you doing this to me? The image issue is very confusing. Someone posted an image that the person had taken while a politician had speaking publicly, and posted it without permission from the subject on WikiCommons with a file name "bad image". Wouldn't it be better to contact that person? Starlighsky (talk) 13:10, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand why you keep adding the image that is copyrighted. Can you explain? —Eyer (he/him) If you reply, add {{reply to|Eyer}} to your message. 13:13, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There are several images on WikiCommons. The 1st post was an honest mistake. From how I was instructed on how this works, the 2nd one had clearance to post. However, an editor in Europe had an issue that Ballotpedia had the image from the U.S. candidate's website...which doesn't really make sense. The present image is officially free and clear on WikiCommons. Starlighsky (talk) 13:26, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information. I only added the reworded information about the original house because that section didn't make any sense. I provided information about the original building, but there are limited ways to rephrase something like that because the information is very basic. Here is the original sentence which had presently been returned the article. I was trying to improve the following because it doesn't explain that the used the money to buy the house, the present site of the culture center:
"Kagey and his 11-man team sold $426,260 in properties in just 10 weeks. First prize was a choice of a car or $5,000. Kagey took the money since he already owned two cars." Starlighsky (talk) 12:50, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will contact the culture center to see if a copyright release can be obtained.
There is limited information on this art center.
I do want to add that I had referenced a newspaper article on the purchase of the home.
There are just limited ways to reword the purchase of a famous home. Starlighsky (talk) 12:53, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The copying goes beyond the material you added and some of it has been there for a very long time. Hopefully you can get them to release the content undr a compatible license. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:26, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a copyright clearance form I could email to the cultural center?
Wikimedia has one, but I am unfamiliar with if Wikipedia has one. Starlighsky (talk) 17:11, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If the copyright holder wishes to release this material under a compatible license, please see WP:Requesting copyright permission for an explanation of how to do it. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 17:47, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I emailed the information to the cultural center.
Could we use quotes from the center with citations (in Quote Block if needed) while they process this information? Starlighsky (talk) 00:50, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
no. It's too much for quotations. It's almost the whole article. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 02:02, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking a paragraph for just a section. An example could be a paragraph on the history of the location, or something like that. Starlighsky (talk) 02:07, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion pending for File:Catherine Chen.jpg

[edit]

Hello, Starlighsky. Some time ago, a file you uploaded — File:Catherine Chen.jpg — was tagged with {{permission pending}}, indicating that you (or perhaps the copyright holder if you did not create this image) submitted a statement of permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. Though there is often a backlog processing messages received at this address, we should have received your message by now.

  • If you have not submitted (or forwarded) a statement of permission, please send it immediately to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and let us know at the VRT noticeboard that you have done so.
  • If you have already sent this message, it is possible that there was a problem receiving it. Please re-send it to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and let us know at the VRT noticeboard that you have done so.

If we don't hear from you within one week, the file will be deleted. If we can help you, please feel free to ask at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Johnj1995 (talk) 23:14, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Southern California Opera Recommendations

[edit]

Hi Starlighsky. I have never seen live Opera before and you are familar with LA theater and I would imagine SoCal theater by extension. Could you recommend what is the best way to see theater in this area. The more classic the better. I have for example always wanted to see the Magic Flute, Pagliacci, and Der Ring des Nibelungen among others. But any classic opera would be great. (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 13:50, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which will have a production of Tourandot next month.
The Walt Disney Concert is a part of the Los Angeles Music Center.
I have to thank you for this question because it gave a great idea for additional content to a music biography here on Wikipedia. Starlighsky (talk) 14:38, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm I will see if I can attend. Tell me what's the best way to experience an opera? Should I try not to understand the act and just go in blind? Or would it be better to read up on the story itself before viewing? If I do decide to read up on the story, either before or after, what is the best way to go about doing that?
Oooooh really? Please share it with me when you are done.
And thank you. (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 15:40, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am not familiar with operas.
I see something that I could add to the biography of a compose. However, the reference so far in terms of the compose and the development of the Los Angeles Music Center is only on a blog. Starlighsky (talk) 15:49, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm either way I appreciate the help.
Would you say you are more familiar with modern theater? Do you know of any editors more familiar with opera?
Are you familiar with Grease?
If it would not be compromising I would still be interested in reading your blog. (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 15:55, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am not that familiar with theater. I don't know of editors familiar with opera.
However, there is the Wikipedia project on Opera that you can join.
I don't have a blog. There was a reference on a blog to the Music Center and a composer, but it might be challenging to use it as a reference. Starlighsky (talk) 16:06, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions to Barbara Carrera. I did have one note for you. I am working on a maintenance project to clean up Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:30, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I just fixed it. If it still needs work, please let me know. I think it matched the infobox now, but I am not sure. Starlighsky (talk) 01:42, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Australasian Animal Studies Association requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G15 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it exhibits one or more of the following signs which indicate that the page could only plausibly have been generated by large language models (an "AI chatbot" or other application using such technology) and would have been removed by any reasonable human review:

  • Communication intended for the user: This may include collaborative communication (e.g., "Here is your Wikipedia article on..."), knowledge-cutoff disclaimers (e.g., "Up to my last training update ..."), self-insertion (e.g., "as a large language model"), and phrasal templates (e.g., "Smith was born on [Birth Date].")
  • Implausible non-existent references: This may include external links that are dead on arrival, ISBNs with invalid checksums, and unresolvable DOIs. Since humans can make typos and links may suffer from link rot, a single example should not be considered definitive. Editors should use additional methods to verify whether a reference truly does not exist.
  • Nonsensical citations: This may include citations of incorrect temporality (e.g a source from 2020 being cited for a 2022 event), DOIs that resolve to completely unrelated content (e.g., a paper on a beetle species being cited for a computer science article), and citations that attribute the wrong author or publication.

Text produced by these applications can be unsuitable for an encyclopedia, and output must be carefully checked. Pages created using them that did not undergo human review may be deleted at any time.

If you think these signs were incorrectly identified and you assert that you did carefully check the content, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Additionally – if you would like to create an article but find creating new encyclopedia content yourself difficult, please share this with other editors at the Teahouse, and they may be able to help. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your legitimate contributions.

Could I move this article to draft space? Starlighsky (talk) 12:41, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok this is not intended to be intimidating. I was browsing on new page patrol, where this article came up. There were several things that lead me to think this might have been generated by an LLM:
  1. several of the sources did not seem to exist, with the website unreachable
  2. several of the sources failed verification, which is to say, the source did not directly back up the statement made in the article
  3. the structure of the article was very odd, it seemed to be about a research organisation but then suddenly started talking about their "art gallery", with no real explanation of why they would have an art gallery
So I flagged it for deletion under the LLM speedy criteria. In hindsight, that was probably a mistake. However, the article now still seems to be headed for deletion under the notability criteria. David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 21:01, 27 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your insight. I can explain what I can as to had what happened:
-The sites appear to be unreachable for some parts of the world and reachable in the U.S..
-The AASA is a society that addresses art and science. Although, not published, the publications and projects from the society could make it a STEAM organization. They publish articles on animal science and have a gallery for animal art under the umbrella of animal studies.
I will research why the citations don't back up the statements. Again, thank you for your insight. Starlighsky (talk) 00:24, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, out of curiosity how did you even hear about this org? They seem to be fairly obscure. David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 02:15, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I was writing about an artist in the U.S. who works with science, art, and animal issues. Her work was exhibited in the AASA gallery, and the society gained my interest in how they combine art and science for animal issues. Starlighsky (talk) 02:22, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reasons left by Lijil were:
This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject.
This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Hi! Thanks for writing a draft about an interesting topic. I think she is notable due to 1) reasonably prominent role in several notable movies 2) clearly some newspaper coverage at the time 3) patents. However, some points:

1. The text also exists at Everywiki - can you explain? If you copied it from there that's not OK, it's copyvioIf you posted this text there that's OK. 2. The section on the senate hearings is confusing - please rewrite so we understand FLores' role from the beginning - it starts with someone else and we don't yet know who he is. 3. Several references are not fully referenced. The newspaper articles should have dates and pages - where did you find these?

Thanks for writing about an interesting topic - I hope you can revise the draft.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.
Lijil (talk) 13:36, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your insight. I want to start with how Everywiki is copying my drafts. I was informed by Wikipedia that they can do that. I have written a lot of articles on Wikipedia. My impression is that the site focuses on my drafts. The site even says that they are publishing Wikipedia drafts.
I used a newspaper site for the newspaper references. I will improve the references as well as the McCarthy hearing recommendation and other recommendations. What has been interesting to see is that some AI systems have been extracting what I wrote about the McCarthy hearing, but misread the section. I try to rewrite it an easier to understand format. This seemed to have caused some AI systems to become confused because the information changed so rapidly. For those reading this, Flores was not a suspected communist. Her boyfriend worked for McCarthy. Her boyfriend was in a complicated issue with his job at the committee. Flores was a character witness. One AI system thought that she an actress subpoenaed to the committee like other actors and actresses. For those reading this, it is an interesting example for how AI is reading draft space articles. A further word of advice to @Starlighsky. Your pattern of commenting at AfD looks like WP:BLUDGEONING to myself and others. My advice is to relax and confine yourself to just one comment in a consensus discussion. Replying repeatedly just attracts unwanted attention to yourself, and weakens your argument overall.
Thank you for your contributions to the wiki! David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 01:31, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will follow your instructions. It is more a frustration because the SPA template was a lie. How many new editors were unjustly given that label? It is not about me, my concern about things like that at Wikipedia. Unfortunately, trying to address a wrongful act ended with what one editor describe as me be bludgeoned, as I understood it. Starlighsky (talk) 01:45, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I had to look this up and want to add that there may have been an unfortunate misunderstanding. After your comment there was a comment in a smaller font with the Wikipedia:Single-purpose account template, and my comment was only about that template. Many people could not see the smaller template that had followed your comment. I want to close that I did not intend any WP:BLUDGEONING. Starlighsky (talk) 02:06, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion on possible sockpuppetry

[edit]

Sorry to do this, but having just noticed some unusual conduct at a recent AfD for Trace Fryer, I've opened a sockpuppetry investigation. You don't need to do anything, but if you did operate the SensoryX account to comment in that AfD, you should know that it is considered unacceptable to operate multiple accounts for the purpose of influencing consensus discussions. See WP:SOCK. If this is a friend of yours that you have asked for help, you should also know that WP:MEATPUPPETRY is also prohibited.

My advice is to relax and let consensus decisions play out. Sometimes the things we contribute to Wikipedia get deleted or criticised—that is the nature of the Wiki. Do not take it personally, it happens to everyone. David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 20:53, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Urrr I'm going to add @1IceCloudStation to the list based on the reply to this that was just removed. David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 23:52, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The comment below explains why I was using that user name to avoid, if I can use the word, unjust harassment. As I had mentioned below, I will return to my usual user ID. 1IceCloudStation was my first account at Wikipedia. I will add to my user page to avoid any confusion. Starlighsky (talk) 23:58, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, using alt accounts is acceptable but it is recommended that you be transparent about that, as per WP:ALTNOTIFY. David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 00:12, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will add them to my userpages. There is no connection between the accounts, though. Starlighsky (talk) 01:15, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The connection we're referring to is the fact that both of them are your accounts. -- asilvering (talk) 01:19, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I misunderstood the question. Yes...I created one account when I was new to Wikipedia and had forgotten about it. As I became much more active in editing and writing, I looked up my old account and used it to allow me to focus on film/television, electrical engineering, and other topics. I misunderstood the question as if they are used in a planned coordination for an article, which they aren't. Starlighsky (talk) 01:24, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the update. I want to add that I do not operate SensoryX not know who SensoryX is. Even another editor pointed that I was being bludgeoned, and I subsequently added that I have to use another name to edit to avoid the unjust criticisms like the SPA template. I think that this might be confusing to Wikipedia based on what you just mentioned. I will just use my user name to avoid confusion. Starlighsky (talk) 23:53, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Starlighsky, here from WP:SPI. Could you please disclose the connection clearly on the userpages of both of these two accounts? Thank you. -- asilvering (talk) 00:43, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I will do that now. Starlighsky (talk) 01:16, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd recommend you ask those questions at somewhere like the Teahouse. Not many people look through the archives of an SPI case, especially a closed one that wouldn't have a reason to reopen, and you really shouldn't be editing (most) archives anyways (they are there to archive things). Best, 45dogs (they/them) (talk page) 15:49, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Okay...will do. Thanks! Starlighsky (talk) 16:00, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unreliable sources

[edit]

Hi @Starlighsky: How goes it? I saw on the teahouse and had a look at some your articles. I see your using a lot non-reliable references like IMDB and discogs. Don't use these source ever. They are by definition unreliable. Take a look WP:IMDB for example in perrenial sources. They are not be used. They are junk so stop using them everywhere like the place us a forum. scope_creepTalk 08:36, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It looks just one article. A bit hasty there. Do you have the script that hightlights bad sources. Might be worth getting that. scope_creepTalk 08:41, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It was one article from when I started here a few years ago. I was trying to address how new people could be mistreated on Wikipedia. Nobody seems to understand what I was trying to say at Teahouse. I blame myself for not communicating the idea correctly. Starlighsky (talk) 12:05, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to join the Vital Signs campaign

[edit]

Hello! I saw you add yourself as a participant to the WP:WikiProject Medicine last summer. I wanted to invite you to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Vital Signs 2026 campaign, where we're aiming to improve all of our 100 top-importance articles. I saw you're interested in renal disorder and cancer, which feature heavily on that list.

I'd also like to invite you to add yourself to the newsletter mailing list if you'd like to stay up-to-date with the group. Finally, did you know we have a Collaboration of the Month? Great place to work together with more experienced editors and learn about Wikipedia's guideline for medical editing, such as the one on using recent secondary sources. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:34, 27 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I will start now with joining the projects and the newsletter as well. Starlighsky (talk) 20:38, 27 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
