- Have an account which is at least 6 months old and which has made at least 300 edits
- Agree to use the IP addresses in accordance with the Foundation's guidelines, solely for the investigation or prevention of vandalism, abuse, or other violations of Wikimedia Foundation or community policies, and understand the risks and responsibilities associated with this privilege
The above requirements are from the Wikimedia Foundation, and are not subject to admin discretion. Additionally, admins must be satisfied that the requesting user has a demonstrated need for access (for example, work at new page patrol, counter-vandalism, or sockpuppet investigations), and are permitted to decline applicants who meet these criteria but are otherwise unsuitable for access to this tool. As of November 30, 2025, 315 out of 340 requests (92.6%) were successful.
Once you have been granted the permission, you must check the box Preferences → User profile →

going through page histories, i often have to revert all the edits of a user. taiv would help to find the problematic edits of temporary accounts. ltbdl (activate) 05:33, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
- While I'm generally pretty liberal in terms of giving TAIV, [1] gives me a bit of a pause especially because the unblock was barely a month ago. I'll let other folks comment, but I'm leaning no purely based on the recency of the block (especially since one of the benefits of TAIV would be to hide LOUTSOCKing better). I've worked on this project for a long while for anti-vandalism, I believed finding the problematic edits of temporary accounts and related edits from their IP ranges by using TAIV seemed valid to me. -Lemonaka 01:06, 12 December 2025 (UTC)

I edit in AMPOL spaces where temporary accounts are common and establishing a lineage of users is useful, such as the multiple accounts at Emil Bove that are likely the same person. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 16:53, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
