Wikipedia:Requests for permissions
This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.
Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".
Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

Permissions
Handled here
- Account creator (add request · view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
- Autopatrolled (add request · view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
- AutoWikiBrowser (add request · view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
- Confirmed (add request · view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
- Event coordinator (add request · view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
- Extended confirmed (add request · view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
- File mover (add request · view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
- Mass message sender (add request · view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
- New page reviewer (add request · view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Page mover (add request · view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Pending changes reviewer (add request · view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
- Rollback (add request · view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
- Template editor (add request · view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
- Temporary account IP viewer (add request · view requests): Temporary account IP viewers are able to view the IP address information associated with temporary accounts.
Handled elsewhere
Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:
- Administrator and bureaucrat access: Requests for administrator or bureaucrat access need to be posted at requests for adminship and requests for bureaucratship, respectively.
- Bots: Request for bot flags should be made at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval.
- Edit filter: Requests for access to the edit filter manager group and the edit filter helper group should be made at Wikipedia:Edit filter noticeboard.
- Interface administrator: Requests for interface administrator access should be made at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard. Only current administrators may become interface administrators.
- IP-block-exempt: While the IP-block-exempt right can be granted by administrators, this flag is not handled here. Requests for the IP-block exempt right should be submitted via email to the checkuser team at checkuser-en-wp
wikipedia.org or contact a CheckUser directly. - CheckUser and Oversight: These rights are only granted by the Arbitration Committee, and only after strict scrutiny. More information can be found here.
- AfC reviewer: This access is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants.
- Redirect autopatrol list: Addition to the list is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect autopatrol list.
- Steward permissions can only be granted in yearly elections, and are rarely given.
- Election clerk has no process for requesting it; admins can grant it sua sponte to themselves or other admins.
- Global permissions such as global renamer, sysop, IP block exempt, rollback, etc. should be made at meta:Steward requests/Global permissions.
Review and removal of permissions
The requests for permissions process is not used to review or remove user rights:
- If you wish to have any of your permissions removed, contact an administrator
- To request a review of another editor's use of a permission, use administrative action review
- If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission, raise your concern at the administrator's noticeboard
The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight permissions are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.
Process
Requestors
To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting the permission.
Administrators
Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.
Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.
Other editors
Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.
A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

Hello! I formally request the Autopatrolled user right. I'm a regular user of Wikipedia, both in Turkish and English. I have contributed to the Turkish Wikipedia, particularly on the Tao-Klarjeti region. I have also started to transfer these contributions to the English Wikipedia. I think it would be good to reduce the workload involved in reviewing the items I have written. Thank you. --ႧႤႧႰႨ ႾႠႰႨ (talk) 15:32, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

I've periodically patrolled Michelangelo1992's articles, and consistently found them to be in good shape. Focused on books as a topic area and very clear familiarity with WP:NBOOK. He's created 135 articles. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 22:56, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Michelangelo1992: I'm a little concerned about overly lengthy quotations. Would you commit to summarizing quotations a bit more? Also, see MOS:SAID. voorts (talk/contributions) 03:24, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the feedback! I’ve always trended toward direct quotes to avoid concerns for original research, but I can make an effort to paraphrase more in the future while still citing the original source. I’ll also try to be more mindful of WP:SAID. I thought I was doing fairly well with this, but I am always open to feedback particularly if you have specific suggestions relating to recent articles. Longtime editor dating back to 2006 who hopes to reduce the backlog at New Pages Patrol, of which I am a former member. Not a prolific article creator but I have started many on music albums, hiking/outdoors, and court cases. I plan to utilize my personal expertise to fill in all the red links in this list and this list. I also have professional knowledge of legal matters and hope to create many articles on Supreme Court and Appeals Court cases that are currently absent from Wikipedia. Hi, I have used AWB to good effect in the past, and I think it would be a considerable help to me now. Since I restarted last month, I've done over 1,500 edits, and a high percentage of them have been iterative amendments/corrections/enhancements across ranges of articles. I know I qualify for the software in terms of edit count, but I've only been back here for a couple of weeks, so I'll understand if you want me to apply again at a later date. I’ve already created a few articles and I often check new pages for sourcing, notability, and overall quality. I also help out in AfD discussions when I can, mostly to look at whether topics meet notability and if the sources are solid. I enjoy helping new editors fix their pages and guiding them on what needs improvement. Since I’m already active in this area, I’d like to take a more direct role in keeping the new pages feed clean and helping page creators understand the basics. Becoming a reviewer would let me contribute more effectively. Thanks for considering my request! Acrom12 (talk) 11:57, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello to the reviewer! I've noticed the large backlog and would like to help make some progress with patrolling pages, mainly redirects. I have some previous experience in the article for creation space, creating my own articles, and creating my own redirects. I try to help new incoming editors, including mentoring my current partner and teaching them how to use the features of Wikipedia. I'm capable of catching content that probably shouldn't belong on Wikipedia, but also helping new users expand draft articles.
I participate in AfD, though my suggestions are often rejected; I consider this a skill that I am still learning. It's worth noting that I have never misused speedy deletion or other non-discussion deletion methods; my usage of these has been successful when I have applied them. Even still, my knowledge of AfC and redirects provides me with a good basis to use this right.
Thank you, and please ask any questions you may have. aaronneallucas (talk) 05:12, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting the New Pages Patrol right.
I have 4,000+ edits, including over 2,500 in mainspace and 500+ article creations. My work has given me solid experience with core content policies, particularly notability GNG, reliable sourcing, verifiability, and BLP compliance. I also participate in AfD discussions and review drafts, which has strengthened my understanding of how these policies apply to new pages.
I would like to support the community by helping maintain the quality of new articles, identifying issues early, and guiding new editors toward constructive contributions. I have no blocks or sanctions.

- Sohom Datta, the result of their last request was here. I stand by my assessment of the state of things at that time: new page reviewer is perhaps the most trust-sensitive permission short of administrator. I think that at this point, 3 further months later, I would not balk on the basis of the prior blocks alone...but I'm also not super thrilled with their responses to the discussion that came up in their last request, not just my objections but also that of DatGuy. Overall I guess I'm neutral at this time. Ironically, I would have had no issues with conferring page mover or most other permissions that are less sensitive to trust and temperament issues. signed, Rosguill talk 15:16, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello! I was a New page reviewer in 2023, and lost the rights due to a block on my account in early 2024. I appealed in September 2024 and returned to Wikipedia, and shortly thereafter requested my previous permissions be restored. I was told it was too early after coming back to regain such rights and that I should work on regaining trust first before applying again. It's been 15 months and around 2,000 more edits since I have returned and I was hoping that I could be considered for this role again.

I’m requesting pending changes reviewer rights because I’ve been actively contributing to Wikipedia, with over 840 edits and familiarity with policies on vandalism, BLP, and neutrality. I regularly make constructive edits and monitor recent changes, and I’d like to help by reviewing pending edits to ensure accuracy and prevent disruptive changes. Not done. I'm glad you're enjoying editing, but nine days is too short of a track record for us to grant this permission. Feel free to re-apply when you have more experience. Giraffer (talk) 12:06, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

I’ve been patrolling recent changes consistently and have handled a substantial amount of vandalism. I also pending changes reviewing rights. Gaining rollback rights would allow me to respond more quickly and effectively, especially during spikes in vandalism, and would support the work I’m already doing. Shubhsamant09 (talk) 00:55, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
Not done, you only have ~30 reverts and three weeks activity patrolling Special:RecentChanges, whereas we'd generally like a little more experience before granting. Twinkle is a very handy tool for counter-vandalism and might be useful to you. Giraffer (talk) 12:13, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

I've been handling vandalism for quite a while now, I have a chunk more than 1000 edit's the majority of which are dealing in vandalisum(the rest of witch are other simmalar activitys). I mainly use Ultraviolet and ocasionally twinkle but would like to try to use the tools that require rollback. Pyrrhic victor (talk) 15:14, 17 November 2025 (UTC)

Done for a month. Your track record since the previous request in October looks a lot stronger. Given that previous request, I'm granting for a month just so we can check in to make sure things are going smoothly. I would expect the next grant to be permanent. I am requesting rollback after willingly giving up Twinkle, and more recently being suggested I request rollback. I believe Rollback would be beneficial to my patrolling of recent edits. Babysharkb☩ss2 I am Thou, Thou art I 14:40, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
- You were previously blocked for your misuse of edit summaries; while that doesn't appear to have fully restarted, I am not really a fan of the tone of some of your newer summaries. [4] [5] [6] WP:DENY is central to counter-vandalism, and the linked summaries don't give me much faith that it is going to be followed. I'm not declining this outright because I'd like a second opinion, but currently I wouldn't favor granting. Giraffer (talk) 12:25, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

I have been patrolling recent changes for a while. I currently use Ultraviolet when patrolling recent changes, but would like to try AntiVandal to expand my toolbox, which requires rollback. I use the standard warning templates with Ultraviolet, although I do have a set of "uw-0" style messages that I use occasionally. mdm.bla 03:21, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

I have been RC patrolling for over two months now. Clicking individual diff links to revert edits is very inefficient and unnecessary, and I believe having rollback could fix this. I've made over 200 edits to mainspace and have no history of edit warring. Seanwk :) (Talk | Contribs) 02:42, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

I have over 4,500 edits and I've actually been on for just a little less than a year now and have some good experience of reverting vandalism. I have patrolled the recent changes and have reverted some bad faith edits. I was trying to figure out yesterday whether Special:Contributions/~2025-37814-99 was the same as disruptive Special:Contributions/65.25.107.28, Special:Contributions/170.85.8.201 and Special:Contributions/2603:6013:1101:1A20:15F2:B24C:5AAD:6215 relying only on behaviour. I decided they were not the same after examining contributions but the decision would be easier with an IP. I also discovered today that, contrary to what I believed, users do not keep the same TA for 3 months. See e.g. [17][18][19]: it must be the same user and there is no obvious disruption that I can see (assuming they are a newbie unfamiliar with the process) but for some reason they have three separate accounts. Look at Talk:House_of_Monpezat#Proposal_to_move_the_page_to_"de_Laborde_de_Monpezat_family": one person supports the move and they have two TAs. Now look at Talk:Landing_Platform_Vessel_1#Requested_move_22_November_2025: are those two anonymous supports different people or the same person with two TAs? It's impossible to know without an IP, making assessing consensus in discussions more difficult without the TAIP viewer right. Thanks. Celia Homeford (talk) 11:09, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

Hiya. I’ve been a longtime editor over in the GENSEX topic area, and ever since temp accounts became a thing, we’ve had a lot of trouble with disruptive editors that are clearly the same person or else a previously sanctioned legacy IP pretending not to be in order to get away with unlimited reverts and sockpuppet talk page consensus. This is compounded by the fact that temp accounts were instated shortly after ARBTRANS was decided, which resulted in a number of accounts being sanctioned for their behavior in topic. Combine that with the fact that many of these temps are clearly *very* thoroughly versed and experienced in wikipedia policies, procedures, MOS, and informal etiquette, and it’s made GENSEX a hotzone against temp account disruption and sockpuppetry. Thus, I’d like to request access to this tool purely for the purposes of identifying temp accounts that are clearly the same person or else previous sanctioned legacy IP socks, so that I do not have to go through the long and juvenile process of constantly arguing “You’re clearly the same person”
Thank you.

Long time editor here. I've frequently looked at IP's to try to figure out if disruptive edits are coming from the person. Just this week I wanted to try to figure out if the potentially disruptive edits made these two, apparently linked, IP's (1,2), came from the same person as an apparently dispruptive temporary account that recently commented on the article's talk page. I see that TAs are now a thing that hides their IP address. I've experience with anti-vandalism and sockpuppetry. Even though I'm not actively doing anti-vandal or sockpuppetry recently, I may come across suspected block evasion that I need TAIV permission to see their IP address to confirm suspected block evasion or sockpuppetry, which I recently came accross suspected block evasion at Red Fort article based on behavioral analysis by edits (which was later ECP'd as WP:CT/IMH sanction). I've read and agree to Wikimedia Foundation's policy for TAIV permission. Stylez995 (talk) 23:28, 4 December 2025 (UTC)

Yo! Decently long-time editor here. I've been RC patrolling for a while and seeing IPs was quite useful in the past. I've recently been dealing with one or more vandals on the page for Athens Alabama and would like to know the number of vandals and be able to tackle them quicker if they flare back up.
